ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI –When Senior Magistrate Tamia N. Richards slapped Nelburn Maduro with a guilty verdict for some four offenses he was forewarned that his pocket will feel a heavy squeeze when he returns to court to be sentenced.

The charges against the man are committing a reckless and negligent act, using indecent language in the presence of police, obstructing traffic, and failing to comply with a lawful order.

In passing the verdict yesterday afternoon July 14, 2015 Ms Richards made very clear her intention of imposing a costly financial penalty on him. “I am looking at a financial penalty, and it will be a heavy lesson,” she said.

The guilty man is now bracing himself to pay whatever amount is hanging over his head and when given the opportunity to say something during mitigation he said, “I learn from this lesson, which could be a real expensive lesson…From this experience I have more towards the law.”

What led to the charges?

According to the facts as presented by the Prosecution sometime around  12:55 pm on August 5, 2014, police were on duty along the Sir Francis Drake Highway in the Sea Cows Bay area directing traffic and while at the junction of Nibbs Estate and the highway they saw a truck travelling in the westerly direction.

As the driver attempted to make a right turn the cops signaled him to stop then as he was being given directions to reverse the truck he took the officers to task exchanging words with them as he verbally challenged them to the extent of ordering one of the officers to move out of his way.

This he was accused of saying in a very graphic and colourful manner, “Boss move out the f**king road. Because you in a uniform you come in the road.”

He then proceeded to drive his truck towards the officer, stopping approximately an inch away from him according to the report said to the police, “You mother sk**t don't watch me. You stink mother sk**t.”

The court heard that even as the accused told the police officers that he at the time was 25 years old, no one tells him what to do but in the same breath told them that he was going to call his parents.

“You don't want me to call my father. You better don't let my mother come down here,” Maduro he was accused of saying.

It was not clear what date Maduro is expected back in court to know the fate of his pocket when he will be sentenced.

Though he was acting like a tough kid, inside he was a fearful child, putting up a resistance to make him seem tough. but in the end it all showed.
