ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Virgin Islander Nekita L. Turnbull has been confirmed in the post of Chief Information Officer within the Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of the Virgin Islands, effective August 1, 2025.

Ms Turnbull brings extensive experience in the communications and public relations sector of the Government of the Virgin Islands. She previously served as the Deputy Chief Information Officer, where she managed the daily operations of the Department's human resources functions, including training opportunities and staff development. Additionally, she has worked as an Information Officer and held the position of Marketing Manager at CTL Home Centre.

'Proud'- PS Stoutt-Igwe

Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office, Mrs Carolyn E. Stoutt-Igwe said in a Government Information Service (GIS) press release on September 8, 2025, “We are proud to have Ms Turnbull appointed as Chief Information Officer. She has successfully completed courses as part of the succession plan to prepare her for the position, in addition to a recent secondment to the Government of the Cayman Islands.”

Ms Turnbull holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and Advertising from the University of South Florida, an Associate of Arts in English from H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, and a Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice from the Chartered Management Institute.

'Dedicated to building on the progress already made'- Turnbull

The new Chief Information Officer stated, “I am dedicated to building on the progress already made in advancing government communications and transforming the department. My hope is to also inspire greater interest in the field, while working alongside colleagues across the Public Service to raise standards and strengthen how we connect with the people of the Virgin Islands.”

As Chief Information Officer, Ms Turnbull will develop a reform strategy for the modernisation of the department and implement recommendations to enhance processes and procedures. She will also draft, edit, and publish communication materials to support public policy while monitoring public opinion on various government projects. Additionally, she will take on other responsibilities related to the daily operations of the Department of Information and Public Relations.

Turnbull's appointment comes following an acting appointment after the retirement of the former Chief Information Officer in 2024.
