Music, Skin, Culture & Colours: VG Festival 2026
There seems to be an increase in the number of persons, different cultural (and nationality) groups and local businesses participating.
The event kicked off around 12 noon, and the sweet sounds of music, dancing and drumming filled the air.
Music and dancing have indeed always been the soundtrack for the Virgin Gorda festival, as drumming to many different cultures is now a welcome addition. The many costumes were also very impressive as women displayed much skin in some acts. Yes, there was the moment of skimpy bikinis, feathers, and other items at this year’s parade.
Business & Politics on display
Droves of would-be masqueraders skipped the gym, strutting into the parade as they are—big, small, and everything in between. Paraders, visitors, and locals alike cheered them on; everyone seemed to be having a good time.
There is no Virgin Gorda Easter Monday Parade without young people on sticks, also called ‘Moko Jumbies’ or a bit of politics, as the oldest political party in the Virgin Islands had a float on display. The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) showed off the history of all of the party’s candidates over the years and the districts they represented, as the festival float was led by the current Ninth District Representative, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley.
One prominent Business on Virgin Gorda, Speedys, displayed two floats while their staff and management showed off their dancing skills. With the 60th anniversary expected to be celebrated in 2027, the party has only begun for the Virgin Gorda Easter Monday Parade.
