BRADES, Montserrat- Public servants in Monserrat have been called to engage in a public demonstration in protest of the non-commitment of the government to approve a salary increase.

President of the Montserrat Civil Service Association (MCSA) Nyota N.C. Mulcare in a letter to members on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, called on its membership to start go-slow action in protest of the non-commitment of the government to approve a pay increase.

In a letter to the members on Tuesday, President of the MCSA Nyota Mulcare encouraged “full participation so that we can make a great impact.”

According to Discover Monserrat in a publication on December 6, 2022, the last salary increases for civil servants in Montserrat took effect April 1, 2017.

10% salary increase requested

Mulcare said in the notice that their most recent request to government was for a 10% salary increase to take effect April 1, 2023. As no firm commitment has been received, the association is calling on all its members to participate in the agreed work actions over the coming days.

On Tuesday civil servants were asked to “Turn the volume off on the office phones and allow all calls to ring out” and “go slow in performing your duties.”

Today, Wednesday, December 7, 2022, members were encouraged to “Turn the volume off on the office phones and allow all calls to ring out” and “go slow in performing your duties. Staff to report sick for duty.”

Tomorrow, Thursday, December 8, 2022, however, the strike steps up with a public demonstration.

Public servants have been asked to “Dress in full black; assemble at the Governor’s Office at 9:45am (placards will be provided), sickout action should continue.”

According to Discover Monserrat, since last Thursday, the association called a meeting of its membership to update them on their request for salary increases and the actions they would take if an agreement were not forthcoming.

We just know to grumble and complain with no actions. A set of cowards. Cost of living killing us and nobody wants to take action. Just pure talks. The politicians bread well buttered and the poor man suffering in silence.

St Kitts paying civil servants double salary in November and December may not be a good thing for other Caribbean government making civil servants around the Caribbean wise or foolish, most government don't have the funds to imulalate SK. Putting them in a tuff position. Maybe monsterrat is one of those government that doesn't have the funds to give increase so maybe having a job and a sure salary every fort night should be appreciated.

Consider...St Kitts double salary increase could be equal to BVI straight US$ salary or less.
Until you know the $$$ amount that is being doubled ...double sounds good but double of less is still less. What matters is cost of living relative to salaries and income.

At the end of the day, regardless of the comparison, their respective salaries will still be doubled.

@shameful, the last time I checked, if you don't stand for something, you will fall for any thing. I see the onus is on each individual to stand up and fight for themselves. And then only then, it will be a crowd stand together as one. Our civil servants is solely responsible for the treatment they get!!

Many underpaid civil servants of the BVI need to do the same as Montserrat civil has planned to tommarrow.
For many years a great amount of the BVI civil servants have been, and still are being forced to work overtime without pay under both the NDP, the VIP, and the now in power put together Unity Government lead by current Premier. This behaviour is what he calls good governance. Isn't this an action of unaccountability? Use it is.
How can white racism be worst than black racism when the result of both are the same against the poor?

Sure give our civil servants a pay rise but stop paying them a pension which they contribute nothing to.

All those people that dislike truth is in love with lies,
The above statement is a very sad reality, but true.
We are a bigger problem against ourselves than forieners are, because of lack of unity to think, speak, and treat each others as our equal. Because of this truth, we will remain slaves to our oppressors, local downpressors (crooked politicians and their cronies supporters) included.
