SPANISH TOWN, Virgin Gorda, VI– Calling the commencement of service a momentous one for the Virgin Islands, Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) says the Government welcomes Tradewind Aviation on its commencement of commercial flights between Virgin Gorda and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

November 16, 2023, marked the start of Tradewind Aviation's new scheduled flights to Virgin Gorda in the Virgin Islands from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The 35-minute flight to Virgin Gorda will operate Thursdays- Mondays until April 8, 2024, and offer connections with virtually all major airlines from the United States.

VI welcomes new airline service

In a short ceremony at Taddy Bay Airport yesterday, November 16, 2023, Hon Rymer- in his capacity as Acting Premier- said the territory welcomes the airline and its high level of service to the VI.

“We appreciate that this is your first scheduled flight to Virgin Gorda for the season. I know you'll be here until April and then you'll resume your regular charter flights, but we welcome you,” he said.

“I know that Tradewind started back in 2001 and we are proud to have the founder here, Mr Eric, for founding Tradewind and I think you deserve a round of applause for your vision in terms of this. Tradewind fits into Virgin Gorda because Virgin Gorda is that VIP destination that we all talk about and it's the pristine beaches that the director spoke about and trade wind fits right into that, especially with the lounges you have in San Juan.”

VI 'honoured' to have Tradewind Aviation- Hon Rymer

Hon Rymer said Tradewind Aviation has been ranked #3 as the best airline in the USA, for the past three years.

"And that is something that you should be proud of, and we are proud about knowing that you would bring that level of service to a beautiful Virgin Islands. So we are also happy and we congratulate you for such an honour knowing that you're a small aircraft, you're a small company, but you ranked among the best with the service that you provide,” Hon Rymer said.

Delivering remarks at the event were also Junior Minister for Culture and Tourism, Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith (R4), Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), and Tourism Director Clive L. McCoy, who said the arrival of the commercial service opens countless opportunities for Virgin Gorda.

Eric Zipkin, CEO and Co-founder of Tradewind Aviation, thanked the VI and its officials for the welcome to the territory. “It is very much an honour to be here and be a part of this momentous occasion for Virgin Gorda, the BVI, and for Tradewinds,” he said while adding that the VI has placed trust in Tradewind Aviation, which in itself is a reward for the company.

The first commercial flight to VG for Tradewind Aviation yesterday came in with four passengers.
