Miguel Weekes & Kei-Andre Williams charged with firearm related offenses

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Two individuals have been charged in connection with two separate firearm seizures during the Emancipation Festival period.

According to a press release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) today, Friday, August 8, 2025, Miguel Weekes, 32, of West End, was arrested following a targeted operation on August 2, 2025. 

“Officers observed suspicious behaviour and, after maintaining surveillance, approached Weekes outside a nightclub, where a search revealed a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol and 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition.”

Meantime, on August 4, 2025, Kei-Andre Williams, 22, of Macnamara, was arrested at the Rise and Shine tramp after being found in possession of a Glock 40 semi-automatic pistol loaded with seven .40 calibre rounds of ammunition.

Both have been charged with Carrying a Firearm without a License and Unlawful Possession of Explosives. 

They remain in police custody, pending their next available court date.

Public urged to remain alert

Acting Commissioner of Police, Jacqueline E. Vanterpool, stated, “We continue to take decisive action to remove illegal firearms from our streets, particularly during the festival period when large crowds gather.”

She added that these seizures reflect the RVIPF’s ongoing commitment to keeping the public safe, and commended the officers for their vigilance. 

“We urge the community to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to help us maintain a secure environment,” Ms Vanterpool said.

    I trust that the different magistrates are taking note of this situation and are actively working to safeguard the BVI by imposing the harshest sentences on these criminals. They should not be allowed in society; rather, they should be sent as far away as possible. Gun-related offenses are definitely increasing in the BVI, and when the police apprehend individuals for these crimes and they are found guilty, it is crucial for magistrates and judges to deliver strong sentences for the benefit of these beautiful Virgin Islands.
