Michael Lloyd found not guilty of marijuana charge
Lloyd, according to Magistrate Richards, maintained his innocence throughout the trial as he was consistent with the activities that led to his arrest back in 2012.
The court was told that on the day in question when the man got to his home, on a disputed piece of land, he met the entrance to the property blocked with some cut bushes and as he was in the process of clearing it away he was confronted by police officers.
At the time Lloyd was said to have a machete which he was ordered to put down.
The defendant, the court was also told, was taken further in the property and after a period of search the officers allegedly came across four marijuana plants in a pot. The police reported that Lloyd told them he was going to hide them before leaving the morning but had forgotten to do so.
That claim Lloyd said was a total lie as he told the court during his testimony that the persons who he claimed set up the police on him were the ones who put the plants there as he had never seen them there before.
He had also testified that the same police officer, who had taken his machete, cut and drank all his water coconuts he had on the property that day.
Senior Magistrate Richards found Lloyd not guilty on the charge of unlawful possession of a controlled drug and not guilty of cultivating marijuana.
Before leaving the dock, Lloyd reminded the magistrate that after he was taken into custody and imprisoned for some time his house was demolished and all his belongings destroyed.
Ms Richards advised on the course of action that he needed to take in that regard and Lloyd indicated that he will be pursuing the matter.
