ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– A resident of Long Bush is the latest person charged by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

According to the RVIPF in a press release today, November 1, 2022, Kamaul Nibbs, 27, was charged with possession of a revolver and five rounds of ammunition.

According to police, a search uncovered the illegal items outside Nibbs’ premises.

The accused is to appear before Magistrate’s Court at the next available sitting.

RVIPF determined to rid streets of illegal firearms- CoP Collins

With over 75 firearms and close to 2,100 rounds of ammunition seized in the last year alone, Commissioner of Police Mark Collins said the RVIPF is keeping the pressure on in removing firearms from the streets and arresting those in possession. He stressed; however, that the public’s help is needed to expose illegal ports of entry and firearms distributors.

The Commissioner made this observation in light of the recent shooting which claimed the lives of two and injured another two.

He noted that just over a month ago, a semi-automatic assault rifle, a Glock pistol and an imitation firearm were confiscated following a series of search warrants carried out on premises in Baughers Bay, Purcell Estate and Great Mountain.

Persons are urged to come forward and share any information that could stem the flow of firearms which are entering the Territory. Persons with information can contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit directly at 368-9339.
