ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A loaded firearm has been taken off the streets of the Virgin Islands, thanks to persistence of officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), who were responding to reports of someone carrying a firearm in the area of Road Town referred to as ‘The Ghetto’.

According to reports reaching our newsroom, it was shortly after the curfew began last night, September 29, 2020, when police received reports from concerned persons that a man, armed with a gun, was acting suspiciously.

It is alleged that when police arrived at a bar several persons were there socialising. They were all searched by the officers; however, nothing illegal was found.

Police, nevertheless, persisted with their search and allegedly recovered a Millennium Taurus firearm loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition from a room.

It is our information that no one has so far been held for the gun and ammo find.

Everyone in the room should have been fingerprinted and checked against the prints on the gun. I agree case closed.

According to the past 2-3 curfew orders passed, Bars are to be closed. Only in the BVI we fail to adhere to rules/laws/regulations. There are many bars operating. When making a report, the police is asking for your information (name, address, etc.) instead of the information relating to the bar (address, name, etc.). The reason for the closing of bars/clubs is to avoid mass gatherings. Over the August season, all these establishments were swamped with people hence the spike. All over the world these establishments remain closed and if found opened is given a fine. We need to step up our game and hold these bar owners accountable. Please task force parade the territory and you would see exactly who is operating.

@ lawless people there are bars open right over on St Thomas and t h e governor of Florida on Friday declared all bars opened with immediate effect.

Bars are not allowed to be opened in St. Thomas. And for Florida, the governor is a Republican. Florida is one of the three states with the highest deaths. So pay close attention.

There are some bars in the ghetto that never closes, regardless of the curfew. I wonder how that is possible when it is in the heart of Road Town.

Police is seen mingling with the boys on the block West End. They are not enforcing the mask or social distancing. Matter of fact the bars are opened and have mass crowds.
