ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A Virgin Islander who is not shy to express her views on happenings in the territory, Lorna E. Tom, has warned that the territory is at a critical juncture in its history, where the fundamental rights and values enshrined in the constitution are slipping away from the grasp of the new generation.

“We must unite and fight for the future of our country and the preservation of our constitutional rights,” Ms Tom stated on January 8, 2024.

According to Ms Tom, the principles upon which our nation was founded, including freedom of speech, the right to privacy, and the guarantee of due process, are under threat.

“We the BVIslansers cannot be idly by and allow the erosion of these fundamental rights that have been the cornerstone of our democracy.”

‘Let us fight back!- Lorna E. Tom

Ms Tom said Virgin Islanders must come together, regardless of their differences, to uphold the values that have made the VI great and to ensure that they are safeguarded for future generations.

She also said it is everyone’s duty to educate and empower the youths to stand up for justice and to demand accountability from those in power.

“Let us rally behind the ideals of our constitution, let our voices be heard, and let us fight back for the values that define us as a country. Our collective action and unwavering commitment to our constituents' rights will shape the future of this beautiful Virgin Islands and ensure that the torch of liberty continues to burn bright.

“Together, let us stand up and fight for our country and for the preservation of our constitutional rights,” Ms Tom commented.

The time to fight was during elections. I did NOT vote for a single VIP. Tell Lornuh in yuh Kornuh to do the right thing for the sake of democracy and the country and hop back to the side the people hired her to be on. It is on her shoulders now. Not a man got to do a thing. Too much badness in the place. As long as showanD is the premier, there is nothing to fight. Goodbye.

You are part of the problem. It is imperative for everyone who can to vote. I do agree with Ms. Tom that we need to Unite. The united front that we once had is nonexistent. We are now a divided nation for which we are now paying the price.

Let us fight for the rights of all Virgin Islander, Belongers and Residents. Not just the "chosen few" who have milked the Country for years.

Lahna, you say you in the people Kahna. You say YOU IN THE PEOPLE KAHNA! Lahna, the place in a frig! Lahna, the country in a frig. Do the right thing. It took you less than 24 hours to cause a frig. It should take you even less to fix it. We need to see a press conference today announcing the formation of government with the opposition. You do not need to be no premier or no deputy. Stay in the Kahna you created for yourself. Ronnie DO NOT NEED to be Premier ( OR DEPUTY) and he needs to understand that these are the only terms you will join them. TODAY! If push come to shove, he can be deputy but there is NO WAY he is fit to be any Premier and I AK sure the majority of the country will agree. The current government need to be placed in timeout so they can sit back and learn from the experienced. They do not need no hand in the cookie jar. They are clueless. This got to be done today! That is all I can disclose.

Being corrupt and committing crimes is not a constitutional right. Maybe when this government stops practising bad habits, the UK will back off. The citizens of this country want our government to be held accountable for their actions, even if that means the UK stepping in.

Cap - the only Virgin Islanders who don't agree with you, are those that are benefiting from the corruption.

People of the Virgin Islands we give away the constitutional rights to England. Lorna Smith needs to fight the governor to return back our constitutional rights instead of uplifting the visa for the Guyanese to come into the country how they want where are your common scenes?

“According to Ms Tom, the principles upon which our nation was founded, including freedom of speech, the right to privacy, and the guarantee of due process, are under threat.” Ms. Tom, very well put but to your list of critical things I will add protecting basic human, liberties, the rule of law, etc. And the bombshell reveal by the Governor of acquiring more power is must be met and resisted with more than writing letters, holding press conferences, etc. The colonialists don’t give a rats @ss about letter writing and press conferences. Virgin Islanders and like minded residents first order of business is organizing, planning, cohesive group effort, etc. Unity and group effort is an important first step. Success is a function of first getting organize. The success of the Great March of 24 November, which was led national hero Theodolph Faulkner is depended heavily on first organizing, planning, etc. They organized, had a plan and effectively executed the plan with group cohesiveness. Similarly, Noel Lloyd and Positive Action Movement successive against the colonialists Wickham Cay and 80% of Anegada was based on effectively organizing, planning and effective execution and group cohesiveness. It is important to note that both movement had a leader, a strong leader, etc. Let’s get organized, organized, etc. The local maxim says talk is cheap and money buys land.

If we fight for our country that means we giving the politician the opportunity to destroy it again. We cannot allow this to happen repeatedly. Let the governor have all the power or chances are no longer valuable. The BVI is in a slump. We sink the ship and we all drowned sad.
