Keevin Walker accused of stealing $$ from WWPS
Keevin Walker appeared before Senior Magistrate Tamia N. Richards on July 7, 2015 at the Magistrate’s Court in John’s Hole where Acting Inspector Frances Liburd took to the witness stand to give testimony based on her involvement in the investigation.
Liburd told the court that a warrant was secured to search the home of Walker and his mother and that the warrant had his home address as Parham Town. Nevertheless, Walker was allegedly spotted and arrested in December 2012 while at the Stickett in Long Look and was taken to his Nottingham Estate home where officers conducted a search but found none of the items he allegedly stole. Instead, Liburd said the search officers took a laptop computer on suspicion that it might have been stolen.
Attorney at Law representing Walker, Mr David A. Penn, then grilled the woman police officer as to why she removed the computer from Walkers’ home, if she was not told that the computer was the property of Walker’s mother, and if she had knowledge that the computer was later returned to the defendant’s mother.
Open & shut case?
The officer told the court she was convinced that Walker was indeed a person who had broken and entered the school’s office on the day in question as she told the court that the police was in possession of such information that led to her coming to such conclusion.
The accused had given his fingerprints voluntarily and, according to the evidence given in court, his prints allegedly matched those that were on a broken piece of window shutter. The officer also told the court that Walker did say that he was working on the school’s fence during the period at which the school was broken into.
However, it was also brought out that there was no evidence of Walker ever being inside the office which was broken into and from where the items, including a total of $220.00, were stolen.
Meanwhile, on several occasions during cross examination, Crown Prosecutor Mr O’Neal Simpson objected to certain lines of questioning by Mr Penn. It was to the extent that at one time Mr Simpson said Mr Penn was on ‘borderline contempt’ of the court for allegedly attempting to take the witness in a direction to give hearsay evidence.
Walker is currently on bail and is expected back in court during September 2015 when another police witness for the Crown is expected to take the stand.
