ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has expressed condolences following the murder of local businessman Mr Kai de Castro on July 28, 2026.

During the Fifth Sitting of the Third Session of the Fifth House of Assembly (HoA) on July 28, 2026, Premier Wheatley said he received the “devastating news” of de Castro’s murder. 

He extended “heartfelt condolences” to de Castro’s parents, his brother, and extended family, including Hon Sharie B. de Castro (AL), his first cousin. 

“Kai was an extremely pleasant person. He was one of our entrepreneurs, restaurateurs; one of the finest establishments that we have in Road Town.” 

de Castro was the proprietor and owner of Main Street Restaurant. Premier Wheatley said, “I was so impressed with the service and generally impressed with the young man. He will surely be missed.”

Other Members of the HoA also used the opportunity to extend condolences to the family of Mr de Castro.

Gunned down in broad daylight

The businessman, who was fatally shot just before 1:00 PM on Tuesday, was found along the road running parallel to the Brewers Bay Beach and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is actively pursuing all available leads to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident. 

Investigators also appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have information that may assist the investigation to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9512. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 800-8477 (TIPS) locally or (284) 800-8477 from overseas.
