JOSIAH’S BAY, Tortola, VI- Residents of Josiah’s Bay on Tortola are calling on the police to take action against persons frequently firing guns late at night in the area.

According to reports reaching our newsroom, a barrage of gunshots was heard in the area as recently as this morning, March 26, 2024.

The handful of residents in the area are said to be terrified at the frequent nature of the shootings.

Over 30 shots reportedly fired last night

Our newsroom was told that more than 30 shots rang out just before 2:00 AM from what is suspected to be a high-powered firearm.

Speaking with residents of the area, our news centre was told that the shootings have been occurring for the last six months and that persons in the area are even aware of the culprits and have made reports to the police.

It has been reported that one of the suspects has been living illegally in the territory for almost five years.

Residents call for urgent Police action

The “terrified” residents are calling on the police to take urgent action, as it is alarming that over 300 shots have been fired over a 6-month period.

“Where are they getting these bullets from?” one resident asked.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has since confirmed it received a report of gunshots in the Josiah's Bay area after 1:00 AM on March 26, 2024.

"Officers responded; however, nothing suspicious was seen. Investigations into this matter are ongoing," Police Media Officer Akia L. Thomas-Nero told our news centre.

It was only yesterday, March 25, 2024, that the National Security Council (NSC) called for calm amidst recent shootings and reports of shootings in the territory.

The NSC also said it remains committed to introducing measures and any relevant legislation to bring resolution to this and all other unsolved crimes.

shameful; because this gun activity is growing just like the rampant movements of the Bike

Some should recall it began with a few bikes now it is a Bike- Pandemic

Could see this unlawful activity going unchallenged in Big Cities: Tortola 24 Square and so many unsolved crimes and growing lawlessness

i will always say; you and your family could be at the right place at the wrong time and end up getting gundown

what are the undercover UK Special Agents Doing

They are both nuisances. They have both resulted in numerous premature deaths. The community is fed up with both.

Well this is because bikes are being used to commit many serious crimes and a huge percentage of bikes are the biggest cause of accidents here. I get woken many nights by bikes and it’s not nice.

Tourists are getting wind of this and the comments on social media are not good, most are saying that there are many other places to visit that are much safer, cleaner and way cheaper. Once the trust companies and tourists leave get those fishing boats fixed, cleaned and ready to go, because that's all we will have.

I haven't heard any shots, now I will listen out. I am sleeping at that hour so that is probably why I haven't heard them. Josiah's Bay is very peaceful and usually, I only hear dogs barking.

Are they practicing to shoot someone in Josiah's Bay? Only those mixed up in the illegal things happening need to worry about getting shots. Most people are innocent and I hope none of the bullets hit them.
