Jose Almestica & John M. Burgos escape His Majesty's Prison
The two inmates turned fugitive last night, October 25, 2025.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) stated that Almestica and Burgos escaped from His Majesty’s Prison after being discovered missing after 9:00 PM.
An active search is now underway across the Territory.
Jose Almestica
Almestica, of the US Virgin Islands, was recaptured on December 7, 2021, after escaping prison following the passage of Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
He was in prison for illegal possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and illegal entry prior to his escape in 2017
Following his recapture, Almestica was charged with 11 counts of Keeping an Unlicensed Firearm, four counts of Keeping a Prohibited Weapon, one count of Carrying an Unlicensed Firearm, eight counts of Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and four counts of Possession of Controlled Drugs with Intent to Supply.
John M. Burgos
Burgos, of the US Virgin Islands, had been slapped with a series of charges, including Conspiracy to Murder and drugs and firearm charges, and remanded to prison when he appeared virtually before Senior Magistrate Tamia N. Richards on February 23, 2023.
He was charged in relation to the December 12, 2022, daylight murder of Kadeem Jimenez in East End.
'Full incident response is underway'- Jay Kendall
His Majesty's Prison (HMP) said upon confirmation of the escape, the Prison Service immediately initiated established emergency protocols.
"The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force has been notified and is leading the active search to locate and apprehend the individuals. All ports of entry and exit have been placed on heightened alert, and regional law enforcement partners have also been informed," HMP stated in a press release.
Superintendent of Prisons and United Kingdom (UK) national Mr Jay Kendall urged the public not to approach the individuals.
“The security of the Territory and the protection of the public are our highest priorities. A full incident response is underway, supported by the police and partner agencies. We are also conducting an internal review into the circumstances of the escape.
"The public is urged not to approach these individuals and to report any sightings or information immediately to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force,” Mr Kendall stated.
Meanwhile, the RVIPF said it is seeking the public’s assistance in locating both men. Residents are strongly advised not to approach either individual, but to contact Police immediately at 368-9339, 311, or Crimestoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS).
Police said further details will be shared as they become available.

Remember that Jose guy Mika Barry use to speak about him how he tried to escape the hospital when he staged his stabbing in the prison few years ago. Remember he escaped in 2017 and was a paid hit man we seen what happened fish bay.

Those 2 will do anything to survive, they made up their minds and not planning on going back to prison ,they will used any means necessary, kill anyone if they have to , if they get in your house , their will held you hostage and remain there for days, so, stop writing nonsense about only the guilty minds can fear them,, you better pray that they do not get in your home with your wife and kids,, you sound so stupid..
That governor needs to go
Did the government permitted outside calls other than their lawyer or family?
Knowing the person was such a high escape convict, did special attention was give to that conviction?
So many questions to be asked and if the bodies now start dropping know its the government fault especially Governor Pruce.
That Jose man was scheduled to be sentenced on Friday. The DPP postponed his sentencing. It is all a plan of the system?
