ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development Honourable Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL) has asserted that although her voice may be elevated, she was not shouting to resident clergyman Gregory George when she was responding to his questions at the community meeting held on Virgin Gorda on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.

When she concluded her remarks to his queries on several issues, Pastor George said the Jr Minister sounded like she was shouting at him and the residents gathered at the Catholic Community Centre.

“I would be offended that you would say that I am shouting at you, but I am not. Greg, you know me from time you born; I am very passionate and whenever I am passionate, you all talking about shouting and being emotional. But when you are on the pulpit, and you are shouting and praising God, nobody is telling you, you shouting!”

She said she respected his methods used to preach.

'We do not want to become slaves all over again'- Hon Flax-Charles

“I respect you when you are preaching, and you do a fantastic job, but I am preaching now to you in the same fashion that you are preaching, and it isn’t shouting. I am passionate about the work that we have done! We are not perfect, but we are doing the best we can with what we have in order not for the UK to take us over and we become slaves all over again,” she added, to a resounding applause from the audience.

“Well, thank you for your passion,” he retorted before he continued to pose questions to the legislators on the issue of the future plan for the dumpsite at Virgin Gorda and the suggestion of having a national insurance scheme for businesses among other things.

The Jr Minister pointed to him that COVID-19 happened, affecting the Government’s revenues and that persons needed to be realistic about certain expectations.

VIP I thank you for your service. When many are out of work, when many are working less hours due to the pandemic we are experiencing, Many of us are still gainfully employed and have hope for a brighter future. I hope this will not shock you guys because I seldom see it in the print. You are not perfect but you are working for the people. To all those who are doing their best to undermine the present administration, I say come with a better plan but remember that the one who wears the shoe knows where it pinches.

I like that Hon. Shereen. We all know and grew accustomed to your tone of voice. When he's shouting at an entire congregation, who does tell him anything? Just like the Horner man can't tek horn; the shouter man can't tek shout.

I am disappointed with the remarks by Pastor Gregory George at the meeting at the Catholic church Community Centre. Hon Shereen Flax was within her usual self when she spoke at the meeting and did not show any animosity towards Pastor George. I would assume that we are approaching the Political season and the Pastor may probably have motives to enter the Political arena. However, I have good news for him. Those who are advising him to create mischief will not be successful. I am saying it emphatically clear that I will not support him if he intends to enter the race.

When you live in a glass house don't throw stones. Further, when you have beams in your eyes you must first clean your eyes then try to clean others eye. Pastor Greg you have a lot of issues in your cosset and you must clean them out before you can attack Hon Shereen Flax. Time will tell.
