DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- An ambitious motion to form a delegation that would have included Members of the House of Assembly as well as CARICOM and Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and United Nations (UN) officials to travel to London to seek to reverse the Order in Council to suspend the Virgin Islands Constitution and impose direct rule was made and subsequently withdrawn in the House of Assembly on July 19, 2022.

Delegation needs to go to London ‘fast’- Hon Vanterpool

Hon Vanterpool said he wanted to move a motion to amend the resolution to add that “this House regrets the recommendation in A1 as was made and wishes to appoint a delegation from this House to go to London as soon as possible to meet with the House of Commons leadership to reverse this Order that was made on the Virgin Islands.

“I want to make a resolution to amend this motion to say that and let us agree in this House to form a delegation,” Hon Vanterpool stated, adding that the delegation should include CARICOM Heads, Members of the OECS and Members of the United Nations Committee on Decolonisation “to join us on the delegation and let us got to London fast.”

Motion withdrawn

The motion was moved by Hon Vanterpool and seconded by the Opposition Leader who obliged.

Hon Vanterpool had asked for a recess to address the wording of the resolution, which was granted by the Speaker; however, when he returned from recess Hon Vanterpool surprisingly withdrew the motion.

He also withdrew an earlier comment that the five Cabinet Members of Government were “puppets”, since he believed the Governor was in control of the VI as a dictator.

‘We need to have a conversation' with UK Gov’t’- Premier Wheatley

When Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) debated the original motion, he did not mention anything about a delegation, as proposed by Hon Vanterpool, being formed to travel to London.

Dr Wheatley did say he supported the Resolution by the Leader of the Opposition but rejected Recommendation A1 of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) Report.

“And, Madam Speaker, allow me to say that I also do not believe that having an Order in Council hanging over our head is the correct thing.”

Premier Wheatley did say that a conversation with the UK was needed to erase the perception that it has the VI under duress.

He said the VI has to work through diplomatic channels and “we need to have a conversation with the United Kingdom Government about not sending the message that these recommendations are being done under duress.

“Let’s truly commit ourselves to the democratic process. Allow the voice of the people to be heard and let’s respect the principles of democracy,” Dr Wheatley stated.

why don't you use your valuable time fixing the shopping list of issues discovered in the COI..no intention whatsoever to take responsibility for the mess you created..

How much has been actually done to repair our government? It seems like nothing.
Only wailing and crying that someone is finally putting a stop to the corrupt ways.
I must commend the Governor's patience in waiting for these elected fools to wise up and try to straighten out, but then again, maybe he's just giving them some rope to hang themselves with?

I remember Herritage been the lone protester Infront of Govt headquarters in the hot sun against the Govt corruption and Cindy being the Loan voice of wisdom..Now it's shameful to hear those same two on Tola Radio defending those same politicians..Rendering their Peter efforts a joke and without seriousness...

dissolving of the HOA and suspension of the BVi constitution will probably occur soon. 30 June 2022 would be a good date to initiate this CoI recommendation since nothing has been accomplished this month in the HOA except wasting time.

Are these clowns intent on having the UK finally come in and take control. Why are they wasting their efforts debating matters which have been determined. The warning has been given.... Sort out the mess....

CARICOM HEADS, Members of the OECS United Nations who would pay the bill for this delegationss. Furthermore these people fighting to curb the issues of rising gas and food prices in their respective countries do you honestly believe they will pick a fight that it's not theirs with nothing to gain? The BVI is considered a rich Island. Plus some of the voices have stated that this fight is about them and not Island people.

So now the downislanders worth giving you attention? OECS and Caricom heads and you still do not care to join Caricom but insult their people. Perhaps only indigenous people having three ancestors on both sides should come to your assistance.

Care to join - both OECS and Caricom have different levels of membership - 'full' and 'associate'; and BVI is an Associate Member of both. We attend their meetings and even host their meetings.

In all good faith . You saw the recommendations why didn’t the NUG tell the Governor what they agreed on and work out before it became public as they did this without the people voices .
Now it is backfiring . Let Mrs P indigenous three generations fight for the continued freedom of these islands . You all are so self sustained that you do not need any one
NASTY ATTITUDE that is why all this is now happening. Everyone looking somebody to blame … Lashing Dogs

At the Fifth Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Fourth House of Assembly at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola on July 19, 2022, yet another day of wasting the taxpayers time and money was spent.
You were given a very large list of problems and shown the incredible lack of transparency and still you do nothing for the people but want us to support this one party rule?
    Dream on
