ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – UK offshore patrol vessel, the HMS Medway has arrived in the Virgin Islands (VI) reportedly for a 4-day visit, during which the ship will demonstrate its Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief capabilities of its military passangers.

A release on the visit stated, “Medway provides a permanent presence in the Caribbean and during the hurricane season is joined by another ship to form the UK’s Caribbean Task Group, which is ready and prepared to provide immediate support in the event of a natural disaster in the region.”

However, there remains some suspicion over the visit of the ship while the VI is in the middle of a COI.

The ship and crew have scheduled a demonstration of its capabilities on Sunday, October 24, 2021, in Queen Elizabeth II Park between 1.00 pm. and 4.00 p.m.

Demonstration on Sunday!

It said “members of the ship’s company will demonstrate the disaster relief skills and capability of the Task Group. This will include chain-saw clearance techniques and the showcasing of equipment used including quad bikes, trailer, tools, shelters, and ration packs. For families and children, there will be battleship games and flag decoding competitions with the ship.”

According to information, the Task Group consists of the patrol ship HMS Medway, the tanker Wave Knight and its embarked Wildcat HMA2 helicopter, along with the Crisis Response Troop drawn from 24 Commando Royal Engineers

“It carries specialist equipment and emergency supplies for use in the immediate aftermath of a disaster,” the release noted.

In addition to the display on Sunday, a team from the Task Group will on Monday, October 25, 2021, be working alongside the Department for Disaster Management who are running a Table Top Exercise with the key actors in a disaster scenario.

Can we get them to fix some of our Roads while they are here.
We are here bawling about COI when we should be Asking England to lend us some expertise in trying to fix some of our roads which clearly needs help. Road construction are designed to last 15 to twenty years not for four months. Every other month these guys are throwing a couple shovel of asphalt into the same holes on the road. Even if it is East end alone from Pariquita Bay to the Airport. Please governor can you ask for help for our sake. This country is not going to move forward with infrastructural development, despite hundreds of million of dollars, if we do not get help with the expertise. We are spending millions of dollars just to do patch work to last a few months continuously.

Can't fix what we don't have. We should be asking the UK for help in building a road network around Tortola.

that wont happen because the uk will carry out the works themselves. our fellows want the money to be given to them so it can be disperse among a select few

and then do a bad job so they can pocket another few thousand for fixing it a few weeks/months later. There is no incentive for local firms to do a proper lasting job as they would be denying themselves future work from the government contracts merry go round

The ship and crew are only here for four days. They have scheduled exercises and no time to fix roads. Also, many people have a short memory of how much was done by the Royal Navy following the devastation of Irma. Help from the UK seems not to be appreciated but the Royal Navy stands by in the event of a National Disaster.

The Navy work definitely appreciated. I don't know where you going with that

It is not a lack of skills and knowhow nor is it the lack of finances that the VI 's infrastructure is subpar and even nonexistent . Consider that there is no reliable running
water. There is no recycling system. Sewage system is an open semi function, garbage disposal are open flames,on a hillside in a residential area, its foul and toxic umbrella-like-smoke wafting over the territory and nearby USVI.
The lack of morals, the desire and greed of elected members, the ones you rub shoulders with in Church, they show up at funerals guaranteeing the votes, they pray at opening meetings in preparation to prey on your absent mindedness.
A few of the many reasons why our VI looks like a place behind God's back.

I hope this means the QE Park will be cleaned, trimmed and open...We need this park and it has been way too long "closed for repairs". The bathrooms need to be cleaned or locked.

Suspicion by and from whom? Please let us have sober and mature thinking and stop projecting our behaviour on to others.

I love the idea that there is an ulterior motive connected to the COI. Like you think the UK will send troops in to seize control because of corruption?! That said it would be entertaining to see the ship let off a few 'fireworks' to show who is boss and wind up the local agitators like the Clines
