HLSCC kicks off 28th Mourant HLSCC College Classic Race Series
Race Director Mrs Stephanie Russ-Penn said that despite the participation numbers being lower than usual, it was a perfect start as organisers worked on implementing modified logistics associated with the ‘fun run format’.
2023 Fun Run Edition
Mrs Russ Penn, in a press release by H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC), explained that this year the College Classics is being hosted as a 2023 Fun Run Edition. The ‘fun run’ format means that all races will be hosted as individual events. While no team categories will be included, top finishers will be awarded the same day.
The Paraquita Bay leg on October 7, 2023, included the one-mile race, which is now open to under 13 individuals, and the 2-mile race which is for participants 13 and older.
Ricketts & Lindsay dominate
Jermaine Ricketts ran 11 minutes 34.24 seconds, while Katrina Lindsay ran 13 minutes 27.15 seconds to become the respective overall men's and women's 2-mile winners. Lindsay has been the top female running in the series for the past five years.
Leading the 1-mile (U9-U13) boys’ and girls’ races, Neylan Maduro and Nae’veya Bruce ran 8 minutes 28.69 seconds and 8 minutes 20.53 seconds respectively. Bruce is the 2022 top one-mile female runner.
The series has continued its mission to be a green initiative through the support of its main sponsor, law firm Mourant. The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College has also partnered with Blu Water for the provision of water at the series.
Races will continue at Paraquita Bay on Saturday, October 21, 2023, for race two of the ‘Fun Run Edition’.
