PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- The Science and Mathematics Department of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) has donated science equipment to three secondary schools in the Territory.

As head of the Science and Mathematics Department at HLSCC, Mrs Stephanie Russ Penn led the charge in implementing the college’s mission to make an impact beyond the classroom.

SGSS, VISTS & ESHS first beneficiaries; more schools to benefit

The essential science equipment was awarded to St George’s Secondary School (SGSS), the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS), and Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS).

The donation formed part of the college’s “strategic goal to strengthen education in the Virgin Islands and enhance hands-on learning experiences in K-12 schools” the HLSCC said in a social media post.

More schools to benefit

The HLSCC will continue distributing science equipment during the ongoing 2025 National Science Fair.

“With a goal of donating 12 to 13 microscopes and four water baths, the College hopes to extend its reach prioritising primary schools throughout the Territory,” the college’s post added.

The HLSCC is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.

Can't give staff a decent raise, fix the broken bathrooms, provide an activiy center for students, yet can donate? No vision. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome initiative but you have to take care of your own house first.

and go back where you come from. I know what I was making at the college and it was not that bad. That was years ago before I retired. I know salaries has raised since so be thankful and grateful you even got a contract and I'm sure it's been renewed several times. Sweet bonus eh. So HUSH!!!!

Many salaries have not raised since 2012.

But let's not detract. This is a great initiative! Kudos to all involved!
