ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Juliet E. Rodgers, aka ‘Yellow’, an individual who was well known in the Virgin Islands, has passed.

Yellow’ reportedly died on the night of December 22, 2025.

While many may have known Rodgers as someone who had a mental health issue, others remember her in her younger days as a boat captain and a vibrant and well-loved employee at Peter Island.

One of the people who has given a public tribute on the passing of Ms Rodgers is local businesswoman Maris Hodge-Wright.

“Many will see her death as just an oh well, she drank herself to death. There was another Yellow who most people did not know, one who before mental illness and addiction took over and dragged her down its dark tunnel, was a star.

‘A fearless young boat captain’

Hodge-Wright said she remembers Rodgers as a “fearless” young female boat captain.

“The one who was a force to be reckoned with. One who at the beginning of her illness would look me directly in my eyes and tell me with a doubt, "while you are using 2 to 3% of your brain power l am using 90% of mine.”

Hodge-Wright said Rodgers sailed yachts to Africa and Europe from the Virgin Islands and that she could break out of locked hospital rooms that were locked from the outside, “leaving doctors and nurses in the old Peebles hospital scratching their heads.

“This is the Juliet Rodgers I will choose to remember, the fiercely young woman who did not back down from any challenge. The one who loved her children and family with a passion. Many will remember the addict, l will remind you that she was much, much more than that,” Hodge-Wright wrote on her Facebook page on December 23, 2025.

'Dedicated, happy Peter Island employee'

Meanwhile, a John Campbell recalled Rodgers as “always a happy dedicated Peter Island employee back in the days”.

Mr Campbell also shared photos of Rodgers as an employee of Peter Island on the public Facebook platform, the Real BVI Community Board.

The Management and Staff of Virgin Islands News Online express sincere condolences to the family of the late Juliet Rodgers, aka ‘Yellow’.

Then this weekend you’re in someone’s church professing Christianity…hypocrites like you.

Let that woman rest in peace, it’s easy to judge while on the sidelines.

And who tell you that the "heart" blogger even goes to church? You are judging him/her, and others, and being a hypocrite as well. How dare you? Also, church goers have declined significantly which I don't think is a good thing by the way, but that is another topic for another day. In 2026, seek to be a better version of yourself, both of you and leave the judging behind in 2025.

Our country, our society could not rescue Juliet. Mental illness is real and begs the question, what really is our government and people doing to address this issue meaningfully.

I noticed that the BVI does not take mental illness seriously. It’s like taboo. They don’t take alcoholism seriously either. People often mock and laugh at people with mental illness often saying the person needs to go and pray and is stupid. The same for alcoholism, Why would people enable an alcoholic to continue drinking. My uncle died from alcoholism. Not even a liver transplant could have saved him. when he was taken to the hospital for the last time empty Hennessy and other liquor bottles were found under his bed. His drinking buddies and the ones that claim they were his friends was buying the liquor and bringing the liquor to him. RIP YELLOW

I am amazed how we continue to "honor" people after they died. How could that benefit the deceased?
I am quite sure "Yellow" was just as she is described by those who knew her. I know her for many years especially certain episodes involving boats.
My point is she had family and many friends, but how did she ended up on the streets? How did she descended into this horrible pit of whatever haunted her? Were there interventions?
Did anyone remember and celebrated her birthdays? Did anyone told her any of the things we are now hearing?
I hope someone did, even during the days she lay in her bed waiting the her demise.
I hope those moments were peaceful and filled with laughter. I hope she enjoyed those moments.
The thing is whatever we say now will not benefit her. May she rest in peace .
