ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – While a number of companies have been buckling to the punches of the economic downturn in the Virgin Islands, Digicel has been stepping up its game and, most importantly, providing employment opportunities for persons here.

The telecommunications giant has announced that it has welcomed five persons to its already dynamic team, even though it is sort of a bitter sweet time for the company since it will soon be waving goodbye to its Commercial Manager, Su Thomas.

Those hired are Karl Burnett and Avian Thompson on the Technical team, Scott Glasgow has joined the Retail team, Subrina Baird has joined the Finance team and Jayne Gray has also joined the Digicel team as a Graphic Artist.

More persons are likely to be hired soon in those and other positions as the company continues to restructure its system to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and improved services.

This was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of Digicel, Mr Declan Cassidy, who has announced that the company recently expanded its team by an additional five persons. “At Digicel BVI, we are always looking for talented and dynamic people and as such, we are delighted to welcome five new team members to the team,” he announced.

He said this addition is a testimony to the company’s ongoing investment in the VI where they now have three networks to maintain following the launch of Digicel’s 4G network and a CDMA network roll-out last year.

“With these recent additions to the Digicel BVI team, we will continue to offer the best value and service in the BVI – as demonstrated with last week’s launch of our exciting “Free All Ova” promotion. The feedback so far has been excellent with customers loving the bumper value and free minutes and text messages to friends and family at home and abroad,” said Mr Cassidy.

The CEO added that within a few weeks the company is hoping to successfully complete interviews to fill the position of Commercial Manager as Ms Su Thomas will be leaving after serving the company and the VI for over three years. She is said to be heading back to her home in England to continue her dreams.

“After almost three years, Su Thomas is leaving Digicel to pursue other opportunities back in her home country, England. On behalf of Digicel BVI, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Su for her fantastic work over the years. Su oversaw the launch of a number of promotions and campaigns and delivered them with great enthusiasm, energy and professionalism during her time with Digicel – and we wish her every success in the future,” Mr Cassidy stated.

As part of its expansion programme, Digicel recently launched its own online University, which offers an extensive learning and development programme. This allows all staff the opportunity to pursue further training in such world class facilities as Stanford, Harvard and the American Management Association and Digicel’s in-house training, including Digicel DNA and Deputies’ Programmes.
