ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Virgin Islanders will witness the commissioning of the first leg of the East End/Long Look (EE/LL) Sewerage Project next week, following years of planning and discussions.

This announcement was made by the Minister for Communications and Works, Hon. Kye M. Rymer (R5), during a government press conference on Friday, December 12, 2025.

"The second leg of the sewage project, from Parham Town to Long Swamp sewerage, was also signed. After years of planning and discussion, we will be commissioning the first leg of the East End/Long Look Sewerage Project," he stated.

The project aims to connect the East End/Long Look area to the treatment plant at Paraquita Bay, which was built years ago but has remained unused due to an incomplete pipe network.

The Minister did not disclose exactly on what day next week the project would be commissioned.

Years in the making

The project was recommissioned in 2021 and was funded at a total cost of $6,142,500.

Hon Rymer had said in September 2025 that the project was nearing completion and used the opportunity to urge residents to connect to the sewerage system "so they can flush with confidence".

Residents of Long Swamp, Fat Hogs Bay, Greenland, and surrounding communities were also encouraged then to sign up with the Water and Sewerage Department and connect to the public sewerage system. Those who sign up before the end of 2026 will do so at no cost to them.
