EAST END, Tortola, VI- Virgin Islanders have been advised of a temporary road closure between Fine Food Supermarket and the East End-Long Look Police Station as the East End/Long Look Sewerage Project nears completion.

The road will be closed from Monday, September 22, until Friday, September 27, 2025, to facilitate the installation of the final stage of a manhole. This installation is part of the ongoing East End/Long Look Sewerage Project on the island of Tortola.

During a live Facebook post on Thursday, September 18, 2025, the Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5), urged motorists to pay attention to the signs and the closure.

He appealed for patience and encouraged drivers to seek alternate routes while travelling in this area.

"The purpose for this rule closure is for the last installation of the manhole, like I mentioned, and to do some other connection," the minister stated.

Project 85% complete

The East End/Long Look sewerage project is being funded at a total cost of $6,142,500.

“This has been a project we recommissioned a few years ago. Today, we are here to update the public on its progress, our expected timeline for completion, and most importantly, to urge residents to connect to the sewerage system so they can flush with confidence”, Hon Rymer stated.

Contractor for BioSafe Solutions, Mr Kern Mitchell, and Project Manager, Mr Marquese Maduro, confirmed that the Long Swamp Pump Station project is approximately 85% complete. They are currently awaiting approval for the final road closure to facilitate installation of the last manhole and sewerage connection.

Residents of Long Swamp, Fat Hogs Bay, Greenland, and surrounding communities were also encouraged to sign up with the Water and Sewerage Department and connect to the public sewerage system. Those who sign up before the end of 2026 will do so at no cost to them.

Please make sure that the access cover (man hole) is not level with the road surface.

Otherwise it will not fit in culturally with the surroundings.

Also can you give us an idea of how many months this project will take so we can use our VI mulitplier formula of (x24) and get an accurate idea of completion.

    Thanks.

Hodges road is so good now it is finished. Great job. Thanks.
