Premier salutes Hon Walwyn for commissioning Territorial Song & Dress

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has saluted embattled former Education Minister Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) for commissioning the Virgin Islands' Territorial Song and Dress, which he said added to the Virgin Islands (VI) identity.

DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – In his closing speech ahead of the passing of the Motion to replace the national anthem of the United Kingdom (UK) at regional and international sporting events, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr The Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) said the Virgin Islands must now consider ways to completely remove the anthem of the colonial power from other events.

Wheatley (R7) successfully gained the full support of the House to have the official Territorial Song replace ‘God Save the Queen’ when VI athletes win medals at regional and international sporting events.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has been given approval for the Territorial Song ‘Oh Beautiful Virgin Islands’ to replace ‘God Save the Queen’ at future editions of the Olympic Games, the Youth Olympic Games and other institutional events and official activities of the IOC and its Affiliated Entities.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Members of the House of Assembly (HOA) submitted their votes yesterday, July 25, 2012 at the Eight Sitting of the First Session of the Second House of Assembly, which resulted in ‘Oh Beautiful Virgin Islands’ being chosen as the Territory’s National song and the male design of option number 1 and the female design of option number 2, collaborated to form the National Dress of the Virgin Islands (VI).

MOE&C to hold competition for Territory song & dress
