Ex USVI police officer arrested for assaulting former lover
CHRISTIANSTED, St Croix, USVI— Police in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) on Thursday, January 23, 2020 arrested Yahya K. Daniel of Estate St John — a former [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) officer who currently works at the Department of Justice — charging him with simple assault and battery for assaulting a woman that he had an intimate relationship with.
According VIPD Public Information Officer Toby Derima, Mr Daniel was arrested at 11:57 pm Thursday.
The VIPD investigation revealed that the assault left visible injuries on the female victim's person.
Adhering to local domestic violence laws, no bail was granted to Mr Daniel, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
