Erin becomes 1st hurricane of 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Erin is now a Category 1 hurricane, and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) expects the hurricane to become a Category 4 storm by early next week before turning north.
Hurricane Erin is now located 520 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands and moving northwest at 17 miles per hour. The change in direction is positive news.
Erin is expected to strengthen rather quickly as it navigates through more favorable conditions for development.
The latest tropical model runs show a consistent curve out to the Atlantic.
According to the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), maximum sustained winds are 75 mph and movement is West Northwest at 18 mph.
