'An internal assessment has shown that if we end up in another Territory-wide lockdown, the money that we have for rebooting the economy will have to be used instead for social support. And when that is over, we will not have any money left to reboot the economy,' Hon Andrew A. Fahie said.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - As some community members continue to call for the Virgin Islands to re-open and allow an influx of visitors to enter, Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has reiterated that Government cannot take risks that can cause another complete lockdown, as the Territory cannot afford it.

"An internal assessment has shown that if we end up in another Territory-wide lockdown, the money that we have for rebooting the economy will have to be used instead for social support. And when that is over, we will not have any money left to reboot the economy," Hon Fahie said.

The Premier made the analysis in a statement on Sunday, August 9, 2020, entitled 'Economic Boost for the Virgin Islands on the Horizon: The Construction Industry'.

"I cannot emphasise enough that for your Government, our highest priority is the safety and health of each Virgin Islander and resident," Premier Fahie said.

Every life matters in the VI - Premier Fahie

He said Government also agrees that human life is most precious above all material things and that the safety of every life matters, "That is why your Government cannot afford to take unnecessary risks that can lead to our loved ones getting sick, or worse dying.

"We cannot take unnecessary risks that can cause our medical facilities to become overburdened. And, we cannot take unnecessary risks that can trigger another complete lockdown," Hon Fahie reiterated.

He reminded that countries of the world are exploring every method possible to balance their economy while trying to keep their residents safe and not succumbing to the pressures of those who are putting wealth above health.

This what i would suggest 1/ 2 flight a day only, one morning one afternoon 2 days a week to avoid the influx, and not to over whelmed the medical system,,,,one flight from St Vincent one from Antigua, who ever wishes to come have to connect either in Antigua, or St Vincent, No hot spot countries will allow, in the first phase, the phases are evaluated every 2 weeks....2/ Every Visitor must be submitted to a test on arrival at a cost of $35. For residents and $50.00 for visitors to help defray medical cost and must be isolated for 2 days in a private facility Hotel / guest house and must get a taxi to go there and food only can be ordered and be delivered until they get that result call....3/ Each Visitor gets a maximum of 16 days stay.. Extension can be applied for only once no more than 10 days extention time at a cost of $60.00 request must have a negative test attached....4/ Add a covid security cost on departures tax of a $11.00 per passenger to help defray security and security risk cost......

...Masks and sanitizers are manditory in all public aces, events and businesses..

Now this plan was well thought out, not like our burger king, Mac Donalds govt. Who always in a rush

Tourism and financial services are very soft industries. They are heavily dependent upon what is happening in the global economy. The next hit will be financial services. What then? The Word is so true. It wasn't for man to rule his own destiny. Man cannot fix a country or the world's problems. God done prove his point. We will have to live with it for now.

I want Hon Fahie to lead us into the future.

We do not need the UK or Governor to control our spending and I want the VIP to control our budget and our future with no restrictions. It is time for the future NOW!

Why hold us back like this with fiscal responsibility and budgeting - spend tax payers US dollar now!

The place will be open if YOU
HARD HEADED PEOPLE WOULD FOLLOW THE PROTOCOLS THAT WAS PUT IN PLACE. Wear your masks and continue to social distance. I am for keeping the boarders closed until further notice.
OK, if the Premier open everything up and cases start to rise, you same selfish people is going to throw the Premier under the moving bus. When you selfish people start following protocols, then everything will open up. Yes, keep the boarder on LOCK.

when you open up; then we have more Covid 19 cases than the territory can deal with, some of us talking open and let in; will sing a different song pointing fingers: some up in here talking; they can not even renter their own islands unless via a special arranged charter flight.......under normal conditions the territory have to fly sick folks out of this territory for health care: covid 19 have no cure at best it is recommended “social distancing”

I am with you 1,900% on keeping the boarder closed. If the boarder have to stay closed for the next 2 years, I am standing behind you. Set of selfish, disgusting rift rafts want everything open for their own selfish reasons. Keep them on lock down until they learn to follow protocols. No masks, no service. No following protocols, no opening of the boarder.
