Dr the Hon Wheatley voted Chairman of VIP; Tipped for Premier
Dr Wheatley, the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, has also received support to be appointed the new Premier of the Virgin Islands.
This was disclosed by Dr Wheatley in an update to the territory titled ‘A Call to the Nation - Forging Forward Together’ this evening.
“I wish to advise you that the Congress of the Virgin Islands Party met earlier tonight, and they unanimously voted for me to assume the mantle of Chairman of the VIP.”
Hon Fahie’s resignation being sought
Dr Wheatley added that the elected members have expressed the view that he should be appointed premier and will be taking steps in this regard.
He also said efforts are underway to seek the resignation of Hon Fahie as Premier of the Virgin Islands as this would facilitate the smooth advancement of the process.
“All my elected colleagues and the government have expressed their support and confidence in me and we have all reiterated our commitment to working together in the best interests of the Virgin Islands and the Virgin Islands people,” Dr Wheatley said.
Will Gov Rankin swear in Dr Wheatley as Premier?
Dr Wheatley would need to be sworn in by Governor John J. Rankin, CMG, who will be at the helm of the VI if the UK suspends the VI’s Constitution and House of Assembly, as recommended by the Commission of Inquiry Report.
More details to follow.

Your ascension into this position; who knew, would rather be so soon!
We are pleased that you have agreed to lead us forward. And for this, you have my support!
Congrats, Ausar!
No sir
I am next in power.
Grant in aid somewhere in 1975 from Great Britain
It is very shameful what the current premier did but it is far more shameful enslaving another human being simply because of skin color.
Great Britain had our people as slaves cutting their sugar cane and picking there cotton while beating our people back them(NOW there are back !!!!!!
Which is worst
1. Money lounging…….
2. Beating another human being just because of skin color
Great Britain(dont forget your history
Congrats Mr. Wheatley
What efforts is he seeking again? What HON are you speaking about? He should have been fired at the start of his arrest., and we need new Elections immediately. no more appointments. we have to get this right, and only one chance we have at this.
The COI determined that your colleagues are not fit for purpose, so the fact that they have confidence in you is a display of their limited ability to govern and why the HOA needs to be suspended.
A legal team from the nation must go and protect the head of state! The BVI owes it to the people to commit its influence at least to get our head of state back home!
Why should he resign his office if no one is helping him!
Does anybody trust these people anymore?
We have no idea who is who
As a BVI citizen who lives abroad, I am always disgusted by how the government treats expatriates. How they treat people who aren't from there like animals is appalling, but I have joy for the expatriates today. Hopefully, they get their justice and due rights through British rule.
Again, the world is watching. Make better choices for your leaders and treat all people well.
If they do, what exactly does that constitution say about gross misconduct of a member of the party?
I would hope it's slightly more robust than just waiting for them to resign...if they want to.
