Dr the Hon Wheatley voted Chairman of VIP; Tipped for Premier

The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Congress met this evening, April 30, 2022, and has unanimously voted for Acting Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) to become the new Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP). Photo: Facebook
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- With the shocking incarceration of Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1) in Miami on Thursday, April 28, 2022, the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Congress met this evening, April 30, 2022, and has unanimously voted for Acting Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) to become the new Chairman of the VIP.

Dr Wheatley, the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, has also received support to be appointed the new Premier of the Virgin Islands.

This was disclosed by Dr Wheatley in an update to the territory titled ‘A Call to the Nation - Forging Forward Together’ this evening.

“I wish to advise you that the Congress of the Virgin Islands Party met earlier tonight, and they unanimously voted for me to assume the mantle of Chairman of the VIP.”

Hon Fahie’s resignation being sought

Dr Wheatley added that the elected members have expressed the view that he should be appointed premier and will be taking steps in this regard.

He also said efforts are underway to seek the resignation of Hon Fahie as Premier of the Virgin Islands as this would facilitate the smooth advancement of the process.

“All my elected colleagues and the government have expressed their support and confidence in me and we have all reiterated our commitment to working together in the best interests of the Virgin Islands and the Virgin Islands people,” Dr Wheatley said.

Will Gov Rankin swear in Dr Wheatley as Premier?

Dr Wheatley would need to be sworn in by Governor John J. Rankin, CMG, who will be at the helm of the VI if the UK suspends the VI’s Constitution and House of Assembly, as recommended by the Commission of Inquiry Report.

More details to follow.

Having you all represent our interests seems to have worked better for you all than for we the people! Government cant borrow because financial statement havent been produced. Its not YOUR money, its our money, needed for infrastructure, health and education for our children. We need value for money from government and accountability for how it is spent. You elected officials and some senior public servants have failed us. You have put us here and you should all resign!

Not such a thing! The decision as to who will run this country will not be determined by no Virgin Islands Party Congress. The COI recommendations suggest that the people of the BVI deserves better and so this is not the time for party politics. Not VIP, NDP or any other P. The country needs structure and strong leadership.

It is very shameful what the current premier did but it is far more shameful enslaving another human being simply because of skin color.

Great Britain had our people as slaves cutting their sugar cane and picking there cotton while beating our people back them(NOW there are back !!!!!!

    Which is worst

Money lounging….which I had some of that. Slavery stopped about 170 years ago. GB is really not interested in taking over the BVIs. It doesn’t have much political value in the UK which has plenty of bigger problems to solve. It’s more like the BVIs screwed it up so badly that GB has no choice but to come clean house, just like in the US, the federal government takes over in major disasters. Maybe better to see all this as a chance to learn how to properly run a country so that then it can be taken over by the residents/locals and the UK can be done with it. To fight all this on some sort of ideological colonial rhetorical principle serves no useful purpose and delays meaningful progress. We just simply need to learn the lessons, clean up shop, and move on. Days of easy money lounging are done.

So it is obvious that the Party has concluded that Hon. Fahie has already been tried, found guilty, sentenced and abandoned. It is amazing how many people, even friends and relatives who are waiting for the moment something happens to us to fill our. position or go-carting off with whatever when we are not around. It doesn't matter who fills this post though, our reputation as a Nation has been tarnished forever.

A legal team from the nation must go and protect the head of state! The BVI owes it to the people to commit its influence at least to get our head of state back home!

Why should he resign his office if no one is helping him!

The world is watching the BVI and its poor choices. I got texts from friends from all over the Caribbean and even Europe watching in awe of the level of corruption that happens in the BVI. Now the whole world knows the true BVI politician behavior.

As a BVI citizen who lives abroad, I am always disgusted by how the government treats expatriates. How they treat people who aren't from there like animals is appalling, but I have joy for the expatriates today. Hopefully, they get their justice and due rights through British rule.

Again, the world is watching. Make better choices for your leaders and treat all people well.

Does the VIP party have a constitution for their organisation? I would certainly hope they do.
If they do, what exactly does that constitution say about gross misconduct of a member of the party?
I would hope it's slightly more robust than just waiting for them to resign...if they want to.
