CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI — Jose Fatima Rosario-Remigio was sentenced Wednesday, November 25, 2020, on his conviction for illegal re-entry into the United States, US Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced.

District Court Judge Robert Molloy sentenced Rosario-Remigio to 24 months imprisonment and a $100 special assessment.

According to court documents, Rosario-Remigio is a national of the Dominican Republic who entered the United States without inspection at a place not designated as a point of entry.

On October 1, 2019, Rosario-Remigio travelled on a vessel from the British Virgin Islands to St. John, USVI.

He then travelled from a beach on St. John to the ferry terminal, where he boarded a ferry travelling to St. Thomas.

Rosario-Remigio was previously convicted for the criminal sale of cocaine in New York, and he had been removed from the United States on May 7, 2019.

This case was investigated by Virgin Islands Port Authority, Homeland Security Investigations, and the US Customs and Border Protection.

It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam Sleeper.

when bvi do the right thing everyone have trouble with it. Americans think they can run every country in the world . have anyone read the story of the four people on a yatch that came into bvi waters ,and customs detained them and fined them 20.000 dollars . well their family in the United States are making a big fuss about it . they went as far ask saying their people are being held hostage in a run down hotel and security don't allow them to go out side. some news site I'm not familar with. them think it ok to break laws in other people's country and get away with but when someone enters the USVI waters illegaĺ they send them to jail.
