Please Digicel...you need a more secure method for your technician to perform their duties.....brainstorm ways that they can be more protected. Every time see them on poles my heart skip a beat. They are valuable.. so please...make a difference.

That's why person's working those kind of jobs should always work in teams for safety reasons, although for financial reasons company's may not like it, we have to look at which is more important staff health or company financial gains.

Labor code, as amended 2012, requires employers who have 10 or more employees to develop implement worker safety programs. This accident was entirely preventable had there been appropriate safety protocols in place. Let’s hope Digicel evaluates what went wrong and takes the right actions to prevent re-occurrence.

    Dear Digicel,
Are your linesmen outfitted with helmets, gloves and harnesses for those ladders when working on those poles? Why are you still using ladders instead of basket trucks? Do you (management) pop-up on your linesmen on duty or spot check your linesmaen when they are working on the poles to ensure they are wearing the proper gear?

Grateful to know the youngman is doing much better.

Phone lines should not be in close proximity to electricity lines period as these linesmen have no control on ensuring their absolute safety from being shocked/electrocuted. They cannot turn off electricity at will. There needs to be standards established on the installation of any lines to ensure the safety of individuals. Future action must be taken to run lines underground in approved pipes as done in Europe to minimise service disruptions. The layering of sand and/or other materials to gain easy access when servicing of lines must be thought on beforehand. OSHA laws and regulations should be observed by every employer and employee.

I am happy to know that the serviceman is safe.
