'Design for HLSCC dormitory to be completed by end of the year'- HLSCC President

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Dr Richard W. Georges, President of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC), has welcomed the announcement from the Minister of Education regarding the securing of funding for the construction of a dormitory for the college.

During a press conference on Monday, March 2, 2026, Honourable Sharie B. de Castro (AL), the Minister for Education, Youth Affairs, and Sports, announced that the ministry has secured funding for the dormitory.

Meeting with RDA

Dr Georges stated that the college and the ministry will meet with the RDA to discuss the next steps. 

"So that's where we're proceeding with the ministry and the college meeting shortly with the RDA to advance the RFP process for the design, that’s the 1st step, design and then costing."

He also mentioned that an interim solution is to acquire an apartment building to provide housing support for students, whether they are enrolled in academic programs or short professional courses.

Design to be completed by this year 

Furthermore, Dr Georges indicated that the design for the HLSCC dormitory is expected to be completed by the end of the year. He noted, "The ministry has allocated the funding for the design,which we intend to have completed before the end of this year."
