ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The selection of a new Commissioner of Police (CoP) for the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is in the hands of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Governor Daniel Pruce has revealed.

Responding to a question from a member of the media during a press conference on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Governor Pruce said he is “aware” that applications for the position were submitted.

The recruitment process for CoP was reopened earlier this year and closed on May 30, 2024.

Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool has been acting in the office of CoP since October 24, 2024, following the retirement of the former CoP Mark Collins.

Police Service Commission to make recommendations to NSC

According to the Governor, “The selection process itself, as is the usual convention, is managed by the Police Service Commission, so action stands with them at the moment.”

He added that, as he understands, the commission is moving forward and working towards being able to advise the National Security Council (NSC) and that these recommendations will be made later this autumn.

“But I think the control of the timetable sits with those who are actually managing the recruitment process at the moment, which is the Police Service Commission.”

My role comes at the end- Governor Pruce

Governor Pruce also clarified that he is not currently involved in the selection process for the top cop job, as his role comes at the very end.

“Once the Police Service Commission have conducted the recruitment, submitted a recommendation to the NSC, the NSC then advises me on the basis of that recommendation and then I take a view.”

The Governor added that he is unaware of how many applications were received for the position and who the applicants are.

“I know nothing at all of the process, and again rightfully so to ensure that I can exercise my role at the end of the process without any compromise or conflict.”

Acting CoP Vanterpool has reapplied

While the Governor is unaware of who the applicants are, Acting CoP Vanterpool has publicly stated that she has applied for the position.

“I have reapplied,” she confirmed during a press conference on June 30, 2025.

Many Virgin Islanders have expressed support for the Acting CoP, with Governor Pruce himself publicly stating that she has been doing a “fantastic job”.

Ms Vanterpool also indicated that she did not expect to “get the commissioner’s post in a handbasket”, adding that she expects to go through the entire process “like anyone else who has applied”.

Hmmm. The Police Service Commission has an individual on it that does not like or care for Jackie Vanterpool to be the Commissioner of Police. Neither does he care for the Chairman of the said commission Preston Stoutt either, as he has already written to the Governor to have Preston removed as Chairman. **** ****** is a wicked Disciple of Lucifer. talk that and Bitch now.

The man you're talking about knows the law has seen the shortcomings in your favoured pick, and will not back down simply because she's from here. NSC members are also aware of this lady's lack of intelligence and ability to lead the force. It's not a popularity contest or a mission to be the first female COP, it's about what's right and best for this territory. Unless you are comfortable with a puppet in the seat of COP do the right thing, choose the best for the job and that's not JV.

I urge the Government, Governor, and in particular the Police Service Commission, not to allow nationality to be the deciding factor in determining who our next Commissioner of Police will be. If you allow your conscience to guide your decision, it will be clear that JV is not the strongest candidate for this role. Do right by yourself, by the officers of the Force, and by the people of this Territory by selecting the most qualified candidate for the job.

We are experiencing the highest volume of complexity, including violent gun crimes, in the history of the BVI, and at this pace will continue spiking, unless nationality, and ethnic bias is being overruled by good judgment of choice on the topic issue expectations.

The top crimes issue is violent use of guns use, that demands a wise, and tougher response in order to at least slow the pace of violent use of guns in the B.V.I.
Lately there has been a measure of success, but we'll short of what is needed.

In the world some job suit males, but in others females are more suited. For example: in the military more males by far face guns violent crimes head on in progress than females, on a lesser scale females do. Males by nature responsibility includes defense against intruders that threatened both family, and community, less the whole community falls prey to preditors.

In short, I favor a male commissioner for the RVIPF, the best quality on. If anyone or others disagree, you, they have the right to your own opinion. However, I am right in my judgment.

Roger for ACP. Jackie for COP.
No No No. Jackie doesn’t have that military background to deal with the crime situation. She is close to 65 and will have to leave shortly and we need an individual who has as least 4 years plan to take the service forward. Many of you are just saying give it to her and don’t know what it takes to run an organization. In my opinion we need an experienced leader to run this organization.
