Campo Rico shooting marks 31st homicide in USVI for 2023

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Croix, USVI - Tragedy struck once again in the U.S. Virgin Islands as a man was found fatally shot in Campo Rico on Wednesday morning, the V.I. Police Department has announced.

According to the report, the incident occurred near a gazebo at around 9:15 a.m. Upon the arrival of officers, the victim was discovered with gunshot wounds, and emergency medical technicians on the scene were unable to detect any vital signs.

He was later identified by his next of kin as 31-year-old Jamal N. Green.

This death marks the 31st homicide in the U.S. Virgin Islands for the year 2023. The tally now stands at 16 on St. Thomas and 15 on St. Croix, highlighting a concerning trend of violence in the territory.

The investigation into Green's death is being spearheaded by the VIPD's Criminal Investigation Bureau. CIB is urging anyone with pertinent information related to this homicide to come forward.
