The question of the controversial police recruitment video was brought up in the House of Assembly by Opposition Member Hon Carvin Malone (AL), who noted that while the Governor has ‘graciously’ accepted an apology from Commissioner of Police Mark Collins he wanted to know whether or not the video production has been or is being aired in the UK or foreign markets, which agency or authority approved the script for the video production and whether all legally required permits and approvals for the video being produced by the Virgin Islands were requested and approved. DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Cabinet of the Virgin Islands has requested an investigation into the production and leaking of the controversial ‘Police in Paradise’ recruitment video.

This was disclosed by Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) during the Question and Answer Segment of the Sixth Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola on July 21, 2022.

The question of the video was brought up by Opposition Member Hon Carvin Malone (AL), who noted that while the Governor has “graciously” accepted an apology from Commissioner of Police Mark Collins he wanted to know whether or not the video production has been or is being aired in the UK or foreign markets, which agency or authority approved the script for the video production and whether all legally required permits and approvals for the video being produced by the Virgin Islands were requested and approved.

Video will not be aired in UK or any other country!- Premier

According to Premier Wheatley, based on information received from the Governor’s Office and the Commissioner of Police, the video has not and will not be aired in the UK or any other country.

He further said the video was a leaked draft and no agency or authority approved a script in its presented format.

RVIPF & BVITB give different versions

Premier Wheatley noted; however, that there seems to be some confusion as to whether the proper process was followed as it pertains to the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission.

“Information received from the Police Commissioner suggests that contact was made with the Tourist Board and it was said this is not a matter for the Tourist Board.”

The Premier continued that the BVI Tourist Board has released a press release giving another version of events.

“An investigation has been requested of the Governor which once conducted will provide a clearer picture of the events.”

Matter to be taken to National Security Council

Premier Wheatley noted; however, that information so far suggests that no approvals for the production of the video were given by the BVITB and it is expected that the investigation will clarify whether the appropriate requests were made.

He also said the matter will be addressed through the National Security Council.

Asked by Hon Malone whether the results of the investigation will be brought to the HoA, Premier Wheatley said he will request of the Governor in the National Security Council that the results of the investigation be shared with the public.

Speaking to the media at a press conference on July 22, 2022, Premier Wheatley reiterated that Cabinet has requested an investigation concerning the production, and illegal dissemination of what has been referred to as a recruitment video.

“Cabinet requested an investigation, I followed up with a request to the Governor for an investigation and we are going to take up the matter with the National Security Council.

“And we will be meeting the National Security Council in early August,” Premier Wheatley stated.

This is still continuing because the Commissioner of Police is lying about the real reasons for the production of this video. Recruitment video my foot. You go and check recruitment videos for any of the UK Police Forces and then come back. This was nothing but another episode of the Police in Paradise series starring MARK COLLINS.

All this moaning is just because the people of the BVI don’t want their dirty secrets out in the open and don’t want the rest of the world to know about the corruption, drug dealing and gangster style murders that they are desperate to hide. They love the easy money but don’t like the bad press

Ashamed Cabinet would waste their time and tax payers time with this hogwash. Did they check out Mika Barry's video and investigate the many public officials starring in it? Oops..deleted. Erased, forgotten? I think not. Police in Paradise was just a small smithereen of truth to stir up the pot and nicely executed. Made the place look interesting while being corrupt whereby the real news, Mika Barry's presentation and everyday life here is just plain corruption mixed with .... fill in the blanks

Very true. An example of this was the recent drug bust just off Norman Island. There were comments on here made by BV Islanders were moaning that it would make the BVI look bad to the rest of the world. There were no comments saying that bringing cocaine and criminality into the area is bad for the people though. What a joke. Easy money is all that matters to most!

So, it’s more important to chase after some folks who made a video without permission than it is to fix the schools, and roads? I can’t say that I’ve see it, but allegedly it places the BVI in a bad light. Might be seen as unfair, but then two or three days ago, there was another boat chase and bust, allegedly on video in FB. Maybe the best thing to do would be to just leave the whole video thing alone, as annoying as it might be, and focus on priorities so the world can see the Territory is doing (or trying to) the right things.

Some of you so damn slow. Tourism is one of the main pillars, The UK comes to kill and destroy. When they put out such video, what do you think would happen to our tourism industry. Other here talking about we moaning about us looking bad, yes we have a right to be concern at the end of the day when things get bad most of you would pack your bags and go, just like after Irma, we have no other place to go. Some of you are so quick to come with the "treating expat bad" story, but at the same time you guys are the first to be throwing stones.
