ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The BVI Postal Service announced the temporary suspension of mail items containing goods bound for the United States (US) and its territories effective yesterday, Friday, August 29, 2025, until further notice.

In a bulletin, the Postal Service said these include American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Executive Order eliminated duty-free de minimis exemption

The temporary suspension comes following the introduction of US Executive Order 14324, which eliminates the duty-free de minimis exemption. All international parcels, regardless of value, are therefore required to be subject to US import duties.

The order was in effect immediately.

Letters & documents not affected

The BVI Postal Service also informed that the acceptance or processing of letters and documents will not be affected by this Executive Order.

“The BVI Postal Service will continue to facilitate shipments of these items to the United States without interruption,” the bulletin explained.

The BVI Postal Service apologies for any inconvenience that may be caused due to the temporary exemption, thanking customers for their understanding and continued support.
