Budget 2022: Preparations afoot for COVID-19 booster shots in new year

DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands (VI) Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has announced that in 2022, the Government will be implementing COVID-19 booster shots for persons who have already been vaccinated.

Hon Fahie made the announcement on Thursday, November 11, 2021, while delivering the 2022 budget at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola.

“COVID-19 is still a live threat and BVI Health Service Authority and other health stakeholders will continue working to keep our people safe. People of the Virgin Islands, hear me and hear me well. COVID-19 is still here. We have done so well with mitigating it thus far with GOD’s help that sometimes we are taking the blessings that GOD has given us for granted. Continue to practice all the measures for COVID-19,” Hon Fahie said.

The Premier further encouraged persons to follow the COVID-19 public health guideline and reminded that COVID-19 is still a threat in the territory.

COVID-19 still a threat to VI - Premier 

“So, we have seen where COVID-19 is a threat. For instance, one area of emphasis in 2022 will be preparation for the implementation of COVID-19 vaccine boosters and vaccination of school-aged children – with parental consent, of course – using the Pfizer vaccine,” he said.

More work plans for 2022 announced by the Premier includes the completion of three construction projects in the Major Peebles Wing: the Road Town Clinic 1st Floor; the dual-purpose unit Specialist Clinics and Isolation Unit 2nd Floor; and the expanded Laboratory Unit Annex – Laboratory ISO 15189 certification.

“Through all the challenges, BVIHSA maintained its prestigious Det Norske Veritas (DNV) accreditation and is preparing for its third on-site survey visit from the accreditation body.”

The Premier underscored that the health of VI remains one of the highest priorities of his Government, “especially as we continue to face the threats of COVID-19 - the worst pandemic to confront the world in over 100 years,” he said

    Is covid-19 virus vaccines a booster a medical now how thing or a political thing. Who is calling the shots, medical practiciiners or politiians in the BVI?
    Well, well, well, what a thing! Since when our Him. Premier were qualified to recommend booster vaccines short? I thought that was reserved for qualified medical Doctors only? Dr. O'Neal, what have you got to say on this very important issue?

      A Non-native senior citizen here, (and also happen to be a nurse). The vaccines and boosters are not political. They are scientifically tested and shown to greatly reduce our chances of becoming infected, and if we happen to be among the few unfortunate people who experience break-through infections, the vaccines and boosters help reduce

      @FDA Pandl Yes but I CHOOSE not to take it and be their guinea pig. The rich who are pushing this and their families are not taking it, but sitting back to see the effect it has on others.     Im fully Vax though, I had my doubts..I have no regrets it was a good choice..Taking a booster shot.. Naaah No way, .aint got a man on earth can make me do that....Keeping Covid alive and around is deleberate and driven by greed,, Having Covid around is making billionairres Richer... We all kno billionairres have no money to buy their way.. Get their way...They will get a push back with this booster shot,

    All day I’ve been hearing ambulances. It’s reminding me of last July. I can’t believe people are SO bull headed to think that that know better than the people who have studied medicine and infectious diseases for their whole lives and careers. Magical thinking will not make Covid go away. Politics and Social Media has truly damaged the Public Health. The tourists are starting to pour in. I truly feel sorry for the folks who won’t get vaccinated. Mostly, I feel sorry for their elderly, infirm, overweight, hypertensive or diabetic family members, friends, co-workers, and others in the community who they are putting at risk because they won’t get vaccinated to help keep the virus from spreading! All because of Politics, Social Media and disinformation!

        Clearly you only believe what you hear and see without using the 100 percent on your brain. You can see things that not really there by tv trickery,you can hear things that has hidden codes that you don't understand. Look up Crista on the guardian you tube channel it's the government channel but it's truth if you can understand what they are saying. The vaccine has something in it that cuts your DNA in half and they put their synthetic DNA in it to switch your DNA so the Almighty father won't recognize you. Do you understand what I just said? You have to come out your box to understand what's going on. The devil will deceived many just like the COVID that you have not seen even when your traveling you don't see thousands of people dropping down dead. You see adverse reaction to the vaccine and your not fully vaccinated until you get all the boosters shots. Some places are on the fourth booster and you can't buy, sell or trade in numerous countries without all the shots

    @Native Senior Citizen of the B.V.I. Being hooked on a drug that you cannot control and must need with the booster is called a JUNKIE! Have you ever seen a JUNKIE nodding down so low, waiting for them to keel over, but they don't because they keep getting that next booster fix. I would rather die naturally than chemically. Oh yes, the rich figured this out 10 years ago how to control and then depopulate the earth, by withholding a vital part you all will need to stay alive and graciously be willing to pay for, making them richer. Once it's in your system, you're hooked like you said....and you will be a walking dead...then really die when you can no longer afford it. YES I SAID IT! Time will tell.

    Think about humanity being the Tree of Life. Those that are dead and gone are the roots (underground). The many nations tongues and people are the stem, leaves and branches. Race and color are nothing but time and experience. The flowers and fruits are the unborn. The Circle of Life ( The Dead, The Living and The Unborn) is glued together by the sap that runs through the tree (your DNA). If your DNA is compromised you are effectively cut off from the tree of life and so are your ancestors. Your name will be removed from the Book of Life. Stop allowing yourself to be brainwashed into thinking that money is the most important thing in life. Some people eager for money have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. This narrative that is being used to inject this gene editing cocktail into humanity is not of GOD. How can fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring. Above all get understanding (oil in your lamp). I know that these seeds will fall on various places but when you have turned back strengthen your brethren.

    In Austria unvaccinated are in lock down. Leaving those that were smart and got the shot ( just like for polio for typhoid for teranus etc etc) can return to a normal life

Just because you believe in something, you cannot force others to see it your way and follow you. I don't listen to anyone except myself, the choices I make in my life, and don't try to invade other people's lives forcing my opinions on them. It's called FREEDOM! The thing about other viruses we had came from nature and we all got only one vaccine to fight it, which we all still have the scar on our arms since elementary school. This COVID was made in a lab to kill people on purpose and they are injecting us with so much and seem we have to continually get a booster. STOP THE VACCINE BULLYING. Are you HITLER? We don't know the side effects yet, until then I will wait and see if it works, and only then will I MAKE UP MY OWN MIND to take it. If I catch COVID and die, as you can too, vaccinated or not you narcissistic person, it will be MY CHOICE NOT YOURS.

    What's going on with our Health Ministry losing steam on the vaccine campaign? There is a definite decline in momentum. Hope they take the blame when people get complacent or sceptical. Other Caribbean nations that started their first and second shots aftet BVI have been giving their boosters since a month or two ago and we have to wait next year? Not good at all.

    I don't like taking tablets let alone a vaccine. But Covid 19 is different. Its proper name gives you a clue: Novel Coronavirus- its new virus. Our bodies have not seen it before or any strain of it. The Governments around the world have tried to protect their people by getting the vaccine rolled out. If the people do not want to take the vaccine then if they get Covid 19 bad they run the risk of dying. That is their decision. But they should be aware that soon the Governments will stop the unvaccinated from receiving treatment in hospitals for Covid 19 as they will run out of beds. As was seen here in July if you go into hospital with Covid 19 and you are unvaccinated you will not being coming out alive. I suggest all those unvaccinated start putting their affairs innorder.
