Bad roads ‘causing hell’ for drivers

Some have taken to social media to voice their complaints, since they believe that more than a month after Hurricane Irma, more haste should have been made to repair certain roads that are used by the majority.
One of their arguments is that the bad roads are causing traffic to back up and slow considerably especially during rush hours, resulting in persons being late for work.
The situation, according to some motorists speaking to this news site, is compounded whenever it rains since when the roads are flooded in some areas persons are unaware of where the potholes are or how deep they are.
“It is causing hell for us on the road with these bad roads. Government should have already targeted some of these roads to fix,” one resident told this news site.
Some of the areas where the roads are particularly bad are in front of the Botanic Gas Station in Road Town, in front of the Magistrate’s Court in John’s Hole, Horse Path, Prospect Reef in front of Tortola Auto Group (TAG) and in front of The Pub, and Paraquita Bay in front of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC).
While some are demanding quality work on those roads, others believe a quick fix for now would do until it is possible to do major repair works.
One Facebook user highlighted on BVI Community Board the road in front of the Magistrate’s Court in John’s Hole, noting that the road is currently impassable even with four-wheel drive.
“It would be hard to believe that the people that can do something about it do not know about this,” Mr Damian Creque stated.
‘Address regular citizens’ issues’
A Wendell M. Gaskin commented that while he is aware the whole country has serious issues, “I wish we would try to address some regular citizens issues, especially in this area where it is really one main thoroughfare.”
Jonty Omm said: “We have to rebuild properly using best practices and if we have to import the expertise to teach us, so be it. We cannot accept shoddy work anymore (and pay big dollar for it).”
And Marcia Fonseca noted: “I'm being optimistic, school is about to open on November 6th. There must be plans to have this rectified before then.”
Fonseca was referring to the deplorable state of the road in front of the Magistrate’s Court, since that road is usually busy with traffic proceeding to the Althea Scatliffe Primary School.
The Minister for Communications and Works, Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) continues to be criticised for alleged substandard road works across the territory, costing tax payers millions.
