ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Ms Lizette O. George left her post in 2012 as Director of Trade and Consumer Affairs to do a stint at the BVI London Office. Once she left, the post was filled first by Kevin C. Smith aka ‘OJ’.

On Ms George's return to the Virgin Islands from London she was reassigned to the Premier’s Office as an Analyst-Strategic Adviser.

Most of her work was on Trade Policies and setting up a Trade Commission via the Virgin Islands Trade Commission Act. This Act was passed in 2020 but was suspended last year following the April 2023 General elections by the new Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour and Trade Hon Lorna G. Smith OBE (AL).

Many had believed Ms George would have been the first Commissioner of the Trade Commission, however, that has not materialised.

George returns after 11 years

Now word is that after 11 years out of the Department, George was asked to return to her old post as Director of Trade and Consumer Affairs. The last Director was Mrs Karia J. Christopher who is on a rotation at the Premier’s Office as the Ag Director of Communications.

Someone familiar with the return of Ms George noted that she was reassigned there a little less than a month ago; however, they do not believe it will be a permanent return as it’s up to Minister Smith and the Government of Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) to decide when and if the Trade Commission Act is reinstated.

Why is this so when there are tons and tons of other qualified locals that can take up these top positions. She left and came back for 'her' position. The Commission of Inquiry was really needed. Stop this BS ! Give other qualified locals a chance!!

She is clueless to what happens in the real world, just a over paid paper pusher. We are skating into a UK takeover with no one to blame but ourselves. We just can't catch a break.
