61-year-old is latest to die of COVID-related complications in USVI
FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI- The [US] Virgin Islands Department of Health (DoH) on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, announced the 68th Covid-related death in the US Virgin Islands (USVI).
"After further investigating cause of death and ensuring notification of next of kin, the Virgin Islands Department of Health is saddened to confirm the territory’s sixty-eighth death related to Covid-19.
The deceased is a 61-year-old female on St Thomas," DoH said.
The department said it continues to work to slow the spread of the virus. "Please continue to follow these precautionary measures: practice social distancing, wear a mask when in company of others outside of those in your household, clean frequently used areas thoroughly, and wash your hands often with soap and warm water," stated the release.
As of Monday, September 20, 2021, there were 220 active cases territory-wide: 158 on St Croix, 58 on St Thomas and 4 on St John.
There were 5 people hospitalisations at the Juan F. Luis Hospital and none at the Schneider Regional Medical Center.
