ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Standing in front of the vessel, ‘Midnight’, that was seized in a joint operation involving US Customs and Border Patrol and the Royal Virgin Islands Police (RVIPF) in the East End area on March 5, 2024, Governor Daniel Pruce has disclosed that the 60 bales of cocaine seized was weighed at 1.8 tonnes with a street value of $180M.

The RVIPF in a statement on March 6, 2024, said the the joint operation was executed on Tuesday, March 5, after 8:00 pm and that the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and US Customs and Border Control successfully intercepted a go-fast vessel just off Hodges Creek, Tortola.

During the operation, officers discovered sixty bales of cocaine and various other belongings on the intercepted vessel. The occupants abandoned the vessel at Hodges Creek Marina and escaped on foot, and despite an extensive search in the area, they remain at large.”

In a Facebook video post on March 7, 2024, Governor Pruce congratulated the RVIPF and the US counterparts for the “highly successful operation”. He said law enforcement authorities were “able to seize 1.8 tonnes of cocaine, with a street value of $180M, which were attempted to be brought into the territory on this vessel.”

‘The drugs trade is a despicable trade’- Gov Pruce

According to the Governor, the drug trade is a despicable trade that destroys lives, families and communities.

“So this seizure is a very very significant disruption of that trade. It is the largest ever single seizure in BVI waters.”

Governor Pruce said the RVIPF will continue investigations into this matter but the Virgin Islands community also has a part to play, “so I would ask anyone who has information about this incident to please share that with the police. Please get in touch with crimestoppers. We could all help the police successfully make our territory a safer place.”

Anyone with information about those involved, and the trafficking of illegal drugs and firearms, should call the confidential and untraceable RVIPF hotline on 800 8477 [TIPS].

I went to the bank for mine as well and paying through my eyeball, but have no intentions whatsoever of dabbling in the drug trade. I would rather scrubber floors for the extra than deal drugs, so please HUSH and speak for yourself and leave decent and honest people out of your mess. It's just damn greed!!!

Just pressure the registered owner of vessel and you going get results. Young dumb and flashy youths in this drug game buying the most chains, cars and boats and not investing in land or building their parents a home to stop paying rent.

When it comes to coke i have no sympathy. What the Caribbean was known for was good weed & relaxation not heart pounding chase and heart pounding chemicals.

Should have stuck to the herbs back to African roots and not become chemist couriers.

We can have the best of everything but some choose to identify with the wrong path. If they were ferrying tones of weed people would protest to free who ever is involved and call it an injustice instead of protest to jail them for supporting poison. Most of those people will probably never try the poison they traffic so it is all about the money no care about who is hurt in the end sniffing chemicals which will be cut with more chemicals.

The Scatter Vibe Drift is not a good one
as Quicksand says. Very telling that the people of the BVI want this type of criminal society (even our so called Christian leaders stay mute on drugs, corruption and crime). See how many more years we can keep that going along tourism and a Financial Services Industry.
BVI not what it was and I think we will find the problem is born here.
Guess we will be saying A Fahie is not a VIslander before long if we want to continue to pretend that Criminal and VIslander does not fit.
We do have a fleet of extravagant "Water Taxis" that are the envy of the world though.
