ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - It was just like yesterday when Jamaican Reggae artiste, Diana King's first single "Shy Guy”, hit the Billboard Hot 100, UK Singles Charts and the hearts of many as persons at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium last evening March 24, 2012 got up, danced and sang along with the world renowned artiste.

So good were the vibes for that song that she performed it twice and got the same positive reaction from the small but satisfied audience of just over a hundred persons that included Deputy Premier Dr. Kedrick Pickering, Minister for Health and Social Development Hon. Ronnie Skelton, District 6 Representative Hon. Alvera Maduro Caines and At Large Representative Hon. Archibald Christian.

Other songs that were well appreciated enough to have some patrons dancing were her 1997 singles La La La Lies and Say a Little Prayer, which the audience requested early and her 2002 single Summer Breezin.

Diana co-wrote and was featured on “Treat Her Like A Lady” from Celine Dion’s “Let’s Talk About Love” album. Her distinctive mark can also be found on the B.I.G. album “Ready to Die” which features her collaboration with the late B.I.G. on the track, “Respect.”

King is no stranger to obstacles, having had a very rough childhood, but went on to become one of the most famous female singers to emerge from Jamaica. A few years ago, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and was told she may not walk again.

After a long bout of depression, as is expected with news of this nature, she decided not to accept that she had this disease and rejected all the drugs the doctors suggested. She literally willed herself to walk and turned to using natural methods.

During the time she was unable to walk, Diana could not sing on stage, which led to deeper despair. But as the months rolled by, she soon found therapy in writing. After setting up a small home studio, King went back to school, got certified, and taught herself how to play the piano well enough to produce what she was hearing in her head.

The more she wrote, the more her symptoms disappeared and, according to her website www.dianakingdom.com, it was like a miracle.

Events for the HLSCC's Performing Arts Series continue on April 14 with a Virgin Islands Showcase 11 featuring the Morris Mark Family.

Show was awesome, down to earth chic, like she said she's a t-shirt and jeans gyal, but she heard the people of the BVI like to dress up lol, so she tried her best. They should think on getting her here for Music Fest so those who didn't come could see what they missed, money well spent :)
