ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– Graduates of the 30th Graduation Exercise of H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) have been told to ‘move beyond’ and grow as they exit the college and move towards greater achievements.

The graduation exercise was held on June 8, 2023, at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town, Tortola where graduates, special invitees, officials, and staff from the college, along with friends and family, gathered to share in the momentous occasion.

Delivering remarks to the graduating students, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) offered congratulations to the students while promising that greater things are ahead of them.

“Enjoy this moment, celebrate your triumph, you have earned it, but this is also an ideal time to think about moving beyond. Moving beyond is about keeping up your momentum, it’s about putting your new qualifications to work for you to advance you in your life both professionally and personally,” he said.

Think about next steps- Premier

The Premier told the students to think about their next step and their passions to gain greater clarity and what moving beyond means. He added that as they move beyond the Government of the VI will cheer on students by providing opportunities for their development.

He added that as the VI and economy are pushed beyond, the Government will be depending on HLSCC to empower Virgin Islanders for successful careers and leadership.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Hon Sharie B. de Castro (AL) also congratulated students for their achievements and reminded them of the transformational power of Education to empower persons as it has empowered her as an alumnus of the college.

Hon deCastro reminded that college is a place where dreams are nurtured and gave a commitment that the government will ensure schools in the VI are well-equipped to deliver quality education.

Meanwhile, the HLSCC class of 2023 is comprised of 142 graduates - 96 females or 69% and 43 males or 31%. One hundred and two (102) graduates are from programmes in Arts, Sciences and General Studies and 40 are from Workforce Training.

Doing a course at a college or university does not guarantee you a job.
