14 to represent VI @ ANOECS Track & Field Championship in St Kitts

- BVIAA President confident team will be in medal contention

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands (VI) will be represented by fourteen athletes- four females and ten males- at the upcoming Association of National Olympic Committees of the OECS (ANOCES) Track and Field Championship in Basseterre, St Kitts.

Held from July 4 to 6, 2026, the ANOECS Athletics Championship will feature elite athletes from across the region. 

Representing the VI are: Females: Deya Y. Erickson (100mH), Trevia Gumbs (ShotPut), Tynelle Gumbs (ShotPut), and Jah'Kyla Morton (High Jump).; and Males: Rikkoi A.R. Brathwaite (100M, 4x100M), Jaleel N. Croal (100M, 4x100M), Wanyae Belle (200M, 4x100M), J’Den Jackson (200M, 4x100M), Adriano Gumbs (400M), Joshua Hill (400M), Jahshani Farrington (800M), Djimon L. Gumbs (ShotPut), Diamante Gumbs (ShotPut), and Khybah Dawson (Long Jump). 

Completing the VI contingent are coaches Burt Dorsett and Jonel Lacy, and physiotherapist Dr Shenique Erickson.

Team VI in medal contention- BVIAA President

President of the BVI Athletics Association (BVIAA) Steve Augustine said, “Team BVI is going into this Championship hot and heavy with a selection of BVI’s top-tier performers who will undoubtedly be in medal contention.”

The Championships form part of the ANOCES 2026 sports competitions programme, supported through a partnership with Pan American Sports, which is contributing funding toward accommodation, meals, and ground transportation for participating teams. 

The initiative underscores a shared commitment to strengthening sport development and expanding competitive opportunities across the Eastern Caribbean.

Augustine added that he is looking forward to the championship, noting that the partnership between PANAM and the Eastern Caribbean is a combination for athletic success in the region.

The team, supported by the BVIAA and the BVI Olympic Committee (BVIOC), is expected to arrive in St Kitts today, Thursday, July 2, 2026, ahead of the two-day championship at the Kim Collins Stadium.
