BUENOS AIRES, Argentina: It was in rainy and extremely cold weather conditions that Virgin Island’s (VI) Malik John made his opening debut in Stage 1, heat 2, lane 6 of the Men’s 400m running a time of 53.33 seconds.

This is according to Chef de Mission Cleave Farrington’s update report on VI’s athlete performances at the Buenos Aires Youth Olympics, however, John’s opening debut was later changed to a disqualification for lane violation at the 200m curve.

Meanwhile, according to the update, Elinah Phillip had a non-advancing result to the finals in the Women’s 50m Freestyle semi-final swimming with a time of 26.56 to place 15th overall out 55 competitors. Phillip was the only Caribbean athlete to place in the semi-finals.

John looks forward to bouncing back with a better performance on the track as he competes in Sunday, October 14th, 2018 at 3:10 pm BVI time in the Men’s 400m Stage 2, heat 1, lane 4.

All track events have 2 stages and the average of both finish times determines the podium finishes of the event with all athletes having an opportunity to compete twice.

John’s final event will be in the mixed relays 8 X 100m during the course of the upcoming week. Events can be watched live online on the Olympic Channel

    Congratulations to the so far journey. Our community keep failing our talented athletes. Without a proper place to train both running and swimming how could our athletes truly perform. They stated the pool thing on VG and just been a white elephant for years. Our track in Tortola is good but it could be grea. The more tools the better. Let’s invest into our youths a bit more.
