KINGSTON, Tortola, VI- Unfortunately, scooter accidents on the streets of Tortola continue. It was today April 30, 2017 around 3:30 PM that a young male fell off his scooter in the area of Kingston, on the eastern side of Tortola.

Persons in the immediate area and other motorists rushed to provide assistance while the ambulance was called.

While the details of how the accident occured are unclear, it appears that the young man was not wearing a helmet.

Within the past five years, the Virgin Islands has been rocked with monthly, sometimes weekly, scooter road accidents that have caused much injuries, damage to motor vehicles and scooters and in some cases death.

The young man was rushed to Peebles Hospital, in Road Town. His condition and identity are not immediately known.

So this is the government fault because the young people them not listening to authority and parents? He wasn't wearing a helmet, them think them invincible and to cool to wear helmets.. and still it's NDP fault... really. They dont listen to there parents.. and I assume they are blind to the fact that their children think they grown. My heart goes out to his mother, in the words of my grandparents... "Who don't hear does feel".

He wasn't wearing a helmet? Lol. From someone who was riding with him, he did have on his helmet and always rides with it. If u saw the video just know that We recovered his same helmet without the bushes (which flew off his head after impact)

A helmet only works if it is properly secured. Sounds like he may as well have not been wearing one.

why should government ban scooters? have you even notice how much expats own these same scooters and haven't fall victim to these accidents? why because they respect the road and motorists who occupy it, and not carelessly risking their lives by not riding with safety. who don't listen will feel

ban liquid. ban cigarettes. ban all the bad stuff we think that is bad for people. ban the sale of fried things. ban the cost of sodas. I know that I am being extra but we can't ban everything that people like. Maybe put laws in place where needed. I don't know. just my one cent.

On q serious note you may judge me wrong too

But when I see a youth fall or die off of these things. It does not make me feel one way.

And not in have lost family to such. Who don't heat will feel. I'm tired of seeing them zooming infront of me when I'm driving. And 99% of the time I don't hear or see them all coming. Until they pop up infrent of me.

So them own the road. And you die by what you live out.

The problem is the police can't pursue them and they know this, so they do what they want. If there are no repercussions, there will be no changed behavior...

I saw one yesterday riding a scooter with his legs on the handle bar. I could not believe my eyes. Majority of the problem with scooters is nit that they are being ridden but the manner in which they are being ridden.

A thank you card to all of us whom contribute our hard earned $$$ to NHI would be appreciated. We're all paying for this behavior seemingly condoned through both lack of enforcement and lack of respect for community, laws and fellow humanity.
