Xmas on Main Street awakens spirit of festive season in true VI style
The evening was undoubtedly nothing short of the ideal occasion to awaken the spirit of cheers and goodwill among the people of the territory as well as those who might have been visiting for short or long periods.
Hundreds flooded the locked off section of Main street from the vicinity of the Sir Olva Georges Plaza where a small stage provided the needed elevation for the little children of the various schools to do their performances. The popular home bred band ‘Lashing Dogs’ was also among those providing entertainment.
Minister for Communications and Works and Fourth District Representative Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool was present to spread good tidings to those present. He also did not fail to remember those shut-ins who for one reason or the other couldn’t be out in person but were present in spirit.
Hon. Vanterpool, sporting the new national outfit, took time out to send love to the people of South Africa on the passing of one of the greatest to have championed the cause of ‘Freedom’- the late Nelson Mandela who passed away after a prolonged medical condition on December 5, 2013.
The children with their melodious voices, charming smiles and show of pure innocence did not fail to captivate the hearts of those present, which for the greater part included members of their families, teachers, leaders and peers.
The most beautiful sight of fathers having their babies perched on their shoulders, mothers rocking babies in their arms, siblings hugging each other, politicians putting down their caps, some seen with their children and grand children, friends hugging each other, the seniors of society clutched in the warmth of their sweaters with broad smiles plastered across their face, all embodied the main objective of the night’s activities.
A quick walk down the street where vendors clustered under tents was not easily possible as the wide variety of items out on sale did what it was intended to do- draw customers, curious minds and searching eyes. One had to take time to shift through the long line of items on sale, which ranged from personal adornments to household decorations, foods, treats, clothing and so much more.
Those present at the time heard of the activities scheduled for the remainder of the weekend, which includes the Clash of the Carolers set for the stage tonight on Main Street.
