Would truth be told on Biwater & law firms doing business with NDP Gov’t?

- Opposition Members to ask serious questions about these two topics in the House of Assembly on October 13, 2016
Opposition Leader Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3), left, will be questioning Minister for Communications and Works Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) on the price difference for water after Biwater was sold to Seven Seas Water Corporation at the October 13, 2016 sitting of the House of Assembly. Photo : VINO/File

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- At the last Sitting of the House of Assembly (HoA) on September 22-23, 2016 Minister for Communications and Works Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) unleashed, with his normal rant and screaming, on Opposition Leader Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3), asserting that Biwater’s price has gone up and it’s costing taxpayers more money for water that was in the signed deal.

However, he failed to be truthful by telling the people while on his HoA rant that Biwater is no longer in the Virgin Islands as the water plant had been sold to Seven Seas Water in August 2015.

There is one Biwater personnel fulfilling their warranty role for the two free sewerage treatment plants still left in the Virgin Islands (VI). These sewerage treatment plants, valued over $5M, were negotiated by the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Administration as part of the Water Purchase Agreement.

The truth about Biwater’s cost

At the upcoming HoA Sitting of October 13, 2016 and after his claims in the Parliament, Hon Vanterpool will now have to answer, “truthfully” we hope, what was the bill submitted by Biwater to the Water and Sewerage Department from the start of water production up until when Biwater was sold to Seven Seas.

In addition, Minister Vanterpool will have to give the HoA details on the Bill submitted by Seven Seas for water after they purchased the operation from Biwater up to August 2016. The answers should put to rest the rants and claims by Hon Vanterpool that the cost of water has gone up and is different to what was signed by BiWater.

Conflict of Interest? Law firms doing business with government

In addition, there have been claims about law firms that are linked to a Minister and a Speaker doing business with Government and Statutory Bodies. We all remember that before the 2015 general elections it was unearthed in the HoA, via a question from the Opposition, that then Orion Law, before the name changed, with partners controversial Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn, an At Large Member, and Speaker of the House Ingrid A. Moses, was doing business directly and indirectly with Government Statutory Bodies.

Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) is to ask the Premier about all law firms doing business with central government and statutory bodies and how much they were paid and why were they hired.  Also, we are to learn from Hon Fahie’s question all consultants hired by the NDP Administration and how much they were paid.

The HoA meeting will be broadcast live on CBN Channel 51 on October 13, 2016 from 10:00 AM from is Chambers in Road Town, the VI’s capital city.

It doesn't matter if it's Seven Seas or Biwater, the contract is the contract! No information has been provided stating that when the company was sold, the contract was renegotiated so it means all the terms and conditions under Biwater, remain under Seven Seas. The fact is Fraser and VIP left a noose around our necks that we have to deal with regardless of the current name of the water company. The contract signed by the Government back then is what's causing issues and that's that.

Don't be a fool, a contract negociated with one company cannot be passed on to another once that company is sold. Therefore if seven seas buy out Biwater, they cannot be operating on the same terms and condition, there must be a new contract.

I am 99.999% certain that the figures requested will "not be available" at this time, for one reason or another. I am further 99.999% certain that the words, "I do not recall" will also be used (more than once) during the HoA meeting. It's how they roll and since there are no penalties of any kind for not providing this information, we can all go sit down.

No freedom of information act, no penalties, no accountability. Why bother tuning in?

@scary Mary....school children talking that the law firm also made a set of money though that pier park project figure looks like over 5 mil and suddenly the hand to mouth talk is up and running in the hall of congress....just a point of information; the conduct during the question and answer segment of house of assembly is intentional because the questions are submitted days before the sitting so the answers should be forthcoming: all elected officials should give an honest account of your tax money

All the whining on news sites is one thing but rise up of you see corruption. Go to the Governor and make it known in the media. The system is broken. Too many locals on the take or can be blocked in business for speaking out directly so that is prime example of the safety nets in place. They need to be used and if all is above board the subject person gets a public and independent refuting of the tittle tattle or allegations done for them. If something untoward going on we can stop it.

Bi Water is like you going out buying a piece of land then paying a contractor to build your home then allowing that same contractor to live in your building for free while you making monthly payment to the bank for 30 years: bi water(free land; free electricity; and selling you back your own sea water....now that's some real serious $h!t) and notice I did not make any mention of the locally own water supply business that was crippled in this process).....it is so funny when questions were asked about that bi water project the then minister refused to give answers, at one point a member of the same ruling party got up and condemned the bi water project(ask Fahie) here you are in 2016 and your tax money spending like crazy on this bi water(keep an open mind then compare bi water project and the pier park project then choose one)

Even Donald Trump is prayed for at funerals. We pray for all the Donald Trumps of the BVI too. They are our people and each better than the real enemy.

Do we have FACT checking in the BVI? Just a rhetorical question. This is "Natures Little Secret" where the populace knows nada, where those in the know holds position and it would be suicide to speak what you know. King Obstinate says it best, "GET WHAT YOU CAN GET". It's a theme/code if you may that some seemed to live by. Who to sort through the truth from the lies?
