EAST END, Tortola, VI - Residents continue to debate whether or not it was right for the two men caught on the eastern end of Tortola, in the ‘Challwell Yard’ area—in an attempted robbery—to suffer the fate of ‘vigilante justice,’ and be beaten at the hands of members of the public.

It was sometime yesterday afternoon, Saturday, August 4, 2018, that 28-year-old Daren Fahie—a government worker—and Nyall George, 25, were caught  ‘red handed’ in a botched  robbery in the area of East End, close to a hotel.

They were nabbed by public-spirited persons in the area who observed what was transpiring. Both men were dealt a severe thrashing.

Police have since recovered a gun as well as ammunition in connection with the failed robbery and both local men are currently at Peebles Hospital in Road Town, under heavy police protection.

The two men are said to be in stable condition.

Mr Fahie suffered a broken leg as a result of the beating, while Mr George sustained several bruises and has a swollen face and body.

Both men are yet to be charged and it’s unclear, if any sanctions will be brought against those who inflicted ‘vigilante justice’ on the two men.

First off... I am trying to interpret your statement.. Did you mean it as locals should not do those things or that locals do not do those things?... If you meant that they don’t you are obviously trolling.

You really have to be one eye. The thing is we always love to cover the wrong of our people and blame our brothers and sisters who came from other places to live among us. To us BVISLANDERS are never wrong but sometimes things just happen the right moment. Those we we do not expect to be robbing are the ones out there doing it. We need to wake up. Our young men want to be rich, sports the best car, boats, wear the best brand name clothing and sport the biggest link but don’t want to work honestly. What a hopeless pity.

You could say this is symbolic of the BVI as a whole. So much potential, beautiful beyond compare, wealthier than most places on Earth and yet, look at we, taking the path of stupidness so often it makes me cry.

I don't like to judge. God will judge the thieves, the ones who caught and injured them and eventually all of us, but please tell me why would people dress up in all that garb with guns to rob those who are hard at work everyday. I have a business and was robbed before. They broke in, ransacked and took what they wanted. I felt violated and suffered much loss. I work very hard just to put bread on my table for my family. If they had met me there, perhaps they would have killed me and left my children orphans. It is not good. I hope that, despite this horrific incident, it would discourage would be robbers and make them think before they venture to commit such despicable acts.

If armed assailants are violating the security of people or property, any and everything they get to fully immobilise them is self defence. In the moment nobody knows whether these cowardly scum bags are going to harm victims or members of the public. 5 hit bags like this also endanger the future prosperity of all of us not just the intended victims. This community and the Magistrates need zero tolerance accompanied by getting young BVIslanders to see that there are a ton of jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities coming along right now with our recovery. Get trained, get educated and get along. Then people will actually respect you. Nobody ever actually respected a coward thief with a gun. Ever.

There should be no charge for the ones who caught them. Citizens were doing their duties to protect our community. If charges are brought against them, then the public will no longer help the Police capture them. Street Justice was served.

While I agree with the out come as long as it happened the way it was reported, "Anyone is justified defending his/her property/family, I would support a full Police investigation into this matter. Something is not adding up. Was robbery the real motive behind this incident?

Sad to see young men tossing their lives away. I’m asking all youngsters even older ones to know it’s important to deeming think about the maybe, the could of, the what if and the possibilities. None of us including me is perfect; Yet not being perfect still doesn’t give us right to do bad things. I hope people would start thinking about the embarrassment they could and would cause to themselves of love ones.
