Work Permit Exemption approvals no longer indefinite

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The public is informed of the revised Work Permit Exemption policy categories and fees that apply to them respectively.

The new Work Permit Exemption categories are as follows:

  1. Exemption by Marriage;
  2. Exemption by Residing in the Virgin Islands consecutively for fifteen (15) years or more; and
  3. Exemption by Minister’s Discretion.

The following non-refundable fees will be applied to all categories of exemption:

i.New Work Permit Exemption –

a.Application fee- One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) per application; and

b.Exemption & Card fee- Four Hundred Dollars ($400.00) per application.

ii.Renewal Work Permit Exemption –

a.Application fee- One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) per application; and

b.Exemption & Card fee- Four Hundred Dollars ($400.00) per application.

Applicants are reminded that Work Permit Exemption is not a guaranteed approval. Applications will be brought to the attention of the minister for consideration. With the revised policy, Work Permit Exemption approvals are no longer indefinite. Approved applicants will be informed of the length of approval with a maximum approval time of six (6) years.

Application forms can be accessed electronically on the Government’s website at bvi.gov.vg/ministry-services and inserting the term “Work Permit Exemption”. Application forms are also available at the ministry. All applications for Work Permit Exemption are to be submitted to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration.
