TRELLIS BAY, Tortola, VI - Repeating their success from the Beef Island 10k earlier in the road racing season, Julius Farley and tender teenager Tallulah Kinkead led a fast field on Saturday October 11, 2014, in the Ceres Juices 10K Series tour stop at Trellis Bay.

Dubbed the “Steel Man Warm up,” the course comprised three laps of the Eastern tip of Beef Island over rolling terrain and soon unraveled into a cat and mouse game between the lead pack of Farley, Ian Montgomery, Ravi Sukhu and James Carr, as they led the first lap while sizing up each other.

On the second lap Farley and Montgomery broke away and opened up a small lead. Farley then pushed the pace on the third lap to shake Montgomery, leaving the field unable to respond and took the tape in 41 minutes and 48 seconds. Montgomery ran 42:59 in second with Sukhu placing third in 43:42.

In the women’s division, Rosmond Johnson established a swift 7:30 min/mile pace, notching up the tempo for the first four miles. However, Johnson was unable to hold the pace on the last lap with soon to be 13-year old Tallulah Kinkead on her trail.

Kinkead slowly and methodically reeled in Johnson and seized the lead with a mile left for a 48 seconds margin of victory over Johnson, covering the course in 48:06. Johnson finished in 48:54 with Claire-Louise Whiley rounding off the podium places in 49:32.

In the power walking field Gerry Rose and Jenny McConnell teamed up to win their respective divisions.
